    We skipped the online meeting last week, so we use that topic for this week.

    Topic of SEC 10th online meeting:
    June 16, 2006 , Friday
    CHEATING in School and in Life
    What is cheating at school?
    -Someone copying from others work.
    -Someone pretending that it is their own work.
    -Marking answers correct when they are wrong.
    -Changing scores.
    -Not owning up to something.
    Why cheat?
    -So that you don''''t look ''''dumb''''
    -To get a higher grade.
    -So that you don''''t get into trouble
    -To get out of trouble.
    A recent report indicates that cheating happens in most schools. The students, surveyed by Who''''s Who Among American High School Students, had at least a B average in their subjects. Eighty percent said that cheating was common at their schools, and 78 percent admitted that they themselves cheated.
    How do these students cheat? Here is a breakdown:
    * 67 percent have copied another student''''s homework;
    * 40 percent have cheated on a test or a quiz;
    * 25 percent have used plot summaries to avoid reading an assigned book.
    Most of the admitted cheaters deny that pressure from other students causes their actions. Rather, they seem not to want to spend more time on homework. Over half study seven hours or less a week.
    QUESTIONNAIRE:
    1. Have you ever cheated in class?
    2. If not, why not? If so, how do you justify your action?
    3. Would you cheat because everyone else cheats?
    4. Please share with us your opinions when you see people cheating.
    5. What are some methods people usually use to cheat?
    6. Could you advise the ways that schools do to stop cheating?
    7. How cheating affects integrity/ fairness/ quality of schools?
    8. Can cheating negatively affect studentsâ?T honesty and personality?
    9. It has been suggested that these people cheating in school may go on cheating after graduation--on their job applications, expense accounts, or income taxes. How do you think of this?

    What a great topic! I''m having exams.
    I''m very sorry if I dont join in the conference tomorrow. After exams, I will get home at 5pm, have dinner and go school ''till 9:00pm, ... and I don''t know what happens then.
