Some members suggest to re-discuss the topic of last week, but I decide to save it for a discussion in June. Instead we use the topic : " Indispensable factors *****cceed in work" for this week to change the atmosphere and bring new inspiration.

    ---
    For reference:
Seven habits of highly effective peopleđ
    (Best-seller book)
    habit 1 - be proactiveđ
This is the ability to control one''''s environment, rather than have it control you, as is so often the case. Self determination, choice, and the power to decide response to stimulus, con***ions and circumstances
habit 2 - begin with the end in mindđ
Covey calls this the habit of personal leadership - leading oneself that is, towards what you consider your aims. By developing the habit of concentrating on relevant activities you will build a platform to avoid distractions and become more productive and successful.
habit 3 - put first things firstđ
Covey calls this the habit of personal management. This is about organising and implementing activities in line with the aims established in habit 2. Covey says that habit 2 is the first, or mental creation; habit 3 is the second, or physical creation. (See the section on time management.)
    habit 4 - think win-winđ
Covey calls this the habit of interpersonal leadership, necessary because achievements are largely dependent on co-operative efforts with others. He says that win-win is based on the assumption that there is plenty for everyone, and that success follows a co-operative approach more naturally than the confrontation of win-or-lose.
habit 5 - seek first to understand and then to be understoodđ
One of the great maxims of the modern age. This is Covey''''s habit of communication, and it''''s extremely powerful. Covey helps to explain this in his simple analogy ''''diagnose before you prescribe''''. Simple and effective, and essential for developing and maintaining positive relationships in all aspects of life. (See the associated sections on Empathy, Transactional Analysis, and the Johari Window.)
    habit 6 - synergizeđ
Covey says this is the habit of creative co-operation - the principle that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, which implicitly lays down the challenge to see the good and potential in the other person''''s contribution.
habit 7 - sharpen the sawđ
This is the habit of self renewal, says Covey, and it necessarily surrounds all the other habits, enabling and encouraging them to happen and grow. Covey interprets the self into four parts: the spiritual, mental, physical and the social/emotional, which all need feeding and developing.
    Stephen Covey

I''m wondering if our box has talked about the issue of academic dishonesty yet. There was a student caught cheating in my class today so I think it''s kinda interesting to discuss about this topic. These are some sample questions:
    - Have you ever cheated in class?
    - If not, why not? If so, how do you justify your action?
    - Would you cheat because everyone else cheats?
    - What are some methods people use to cheat?
    - What can the school do to stop cheating?
    - How cheating affects integrity of the school?
    - Can cheating create bad influence to the student''s career?
Well, just some suggestions. You should change it cuz you write questions much better than I do.

Topic of SEC 10th online meeting:
    June 10, 2006 , Saturdạy
CHEATING in School and in Life
    What is cheating at school?
    -Someone copying from others work.
-Someone pretending that it is their own work.
-Marking answers correct when they are wrong.
    -Changing scores.
    -Not owning up to something.
    Why cheat?
-So that you don''t look ''dumb''
    -To get a higher grade.
-So that you don''t get into trouble
    -To get out of trouble.
A recent report indicates that cheating happens in most schools. The students, surveyed by Who''s Who Among American High School Students, had at least a B average in their subjects. Eighty percent said that cheating was common at their schools, and 78 percent admitted that they themselves cheated.
How do these students cheat? Here is a breakdown:
    * 67 percent have copied another student''s homework;
    * 40 percent have cheated on a test or a quiz;
    * 25 percent have used plot summaries to avoid reading an assigned book.
Most of the admitted cheaters deny that pressure from other students causes their actions. Rather, they seem not to want to spend more time on homework. Over half study seven hours or less a week.
    QUESTIONNAIRE:
    1. Have you ever cheated in class?
    2. If not, why not? If so, how do you justify your action?
    3. Would you cheat because everyone else cheats?
    4. Please share with us your opinions when you see people cheating.
    5. What are some methods people usually use to cheat?
    6. Could you advise the ways that schools do to stop cheating?
    7. How cheating affects integrity/ fairness/ quality of schools?
    8. Can cheating negatively affect students?T honesty and personality?
    9. It has been suggested that these people cheating in school may go on cheating after graduation--on their job applications, expense accounts, or income taxes. How do you think of this?
p.s: to Aquarain and other members: King will decide the starting time of our meeting. King , please announce formally the date and time of our online meeting this week again. Also, pls decide the starting time of SEC online meetings.

We will start our 10th Online Voice Conference at 9:45PM on Saturday, June 10. The meeting is right after the England vs. Paraguay match so you can come early to discuss the match if you want to. In case you haven''t already known, this meeting will also feature extraordinary performances of some SEC singers for the first time ever. Stick around and you''ll find out who these singers are. I''m giving a hint: they are popular SEC members
