Well we've created loads of topics like this already. I don't mean to hurt you but I have to say that this won't attract many people. You know, dicussing so many times a same old topic will somewhat give people a tired sensation. I myself also feel really sorry.
Anyway, to answer your question, I think the only way to improve vocabulary is to read and read, read as much as possible. Remeber to read things you like only. You'll learn much more effectively if you have interest in it, you know. Besides we can watch movies (we may find some interesting slangs or some daily speaking words). Watching news is also great fun, it helps improve not only listening skill but vocabulary as well. Try to use images when you learn new words, I think it's a good way. That's all. When you find a new word, donâ?Tt look up English â?" Vietnamese dictionary right away, try to use English â?" English one. Youâ?Tll get the most accurate meaning and ..... (Iâ?Tve mentioned in the other topic â?oGiup do thi IELTS or sth like that I know uâ?Tve read it) HTH
I wrote ur name in the sky, but the wind blew it away
I wrote ur name in the sand, but the waves washed it away
So I write ur name in my heart, where noone can take it away and 4ever it will stay...

The best way to improve your vocabulary tresor is to read. Read with a passion. Read newspaper, read magazine like National Geographic, Time . If one word really obstructs, obscures the meaning of the sentence then, do look it up . Only by becoming an avid reader that you can ameliorate your English . Others would argue that you should look up every new words you are not sure of. That's another way . Either way would do fine. So, the key word is : Read .
To practice pronunciation, listen to news anchormen/anchorwomen . Most of the time they have perfect English pronunciation . Other way is to use audio tape ... or even chit-chat with a native English speaker...
My 2 cents... and my very best wish to your effort.

It's is very useful to talk to native speakers. But do you think that it will be dificult for you to listen to the tapes after a long time you tend to speak with native speakers?

    Hello lovelystar102

I don't quite understand your question. Unless the audio quality of the tape is bad, it should sound like a native speaker. Well, unless you were interacting/conversing with some heavily accented hillbilly from the deep South . Even the native born has problem understanding them. How's that for a consolation ? . Cheers .

well.. i think i gotta give you my little advice bout how to study English as well as improve it, lovelystar102. My first learning English experience is made with music. It might sound ridiculous but yes, it is!!! if u like a song, u love the singer, why dont you take some times to get to know it. Try to write down the lyrics at first, sing later (i mean try to say the words the way the singer did) then u will know how u improve your listening and speaking. Believe me, i dare say it's really helpful, very likely.

then, as others said "reading whatever u like" will do. I love reading novels desperately and im learning from that, how they express their thinking, how they use the words, bla bla bla.... kind of enjoying and studying.
Ok now, how about that?? hope u will build your English to perfection!!
    Have fun.
    you'll never know.....

I mean that some people, they talk to native speakers frequently, and when they listen to the tape again, they find it difficult. Because listening to the native speakers are usually easier to understand than the tapes: their intonation and real souds. But in the exams, you have to listen to the tapes. So people will find it dificult. Do you understand what I mean?

    Hi LovelyStar ,
OK , I understand now. I guess it's easier to understand when you talk face to face to native speakers since, you can also grasp the conversation thru their body language . They are also willing to repeat or use another terms if you have problem understanding . Besides, you have less pressure, stress in casual talk since you can just laugh it off pretending you understand what was said to you.
Anyway, Cuncon also gave another neat way to learn : listening to your favorite music . One note of caution though : the lyrics might be rigged with syntax errors or slangs that can't be used in an academic or formal situation .
Cheers and more best wishes for your English language's conquest . Judging by your postings, your English is pretty solid . Give yourself a good pat in the back .

Here is my advice, to improve yr vocab, U should have small coloured cards. On one side, U write some newswords, on the other side, U write the meaning of those words. U can see these cards everyday to remember all the word. Maybe one day U see Engl words and try to remember Vnese words...
To improve yr Reading skill, I think U have to understand the topic of a paragraph U're reading. U can underline its keywords, it's very useful.
Another factor to study Engl well is yr passion. If U really like this language, I think that U'll pay yr attention to learn it and find a good method to learn.
