    How romantic are you?
"For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul."- Judy Garland
Love is romance but does romance only go with love?
    Part 1: What is romance?
    1. In your opinion, what is meant by ?oromancê?? Do you think romance is necessary in life?
    2. Do you think romance is only associated with love?
Do you agree that romance will gradually diminish after marriage?
Part 2: How romantic are you? (Work in groups)
Is ?obeing romantic? simply a natural characteristic with which you were born or can it be learned?
Express your romantic capability with the following activities:
    1. Imagine you are in a cafeteria with your partner and you want to give him/her a surprise. But in front of you, there are only a basket of artificial flowers, a box of tissues, 2 glasses of water, and a small plate containing half a lemon and some sugar. Use your creativity and your romantic characteristic to imagine what you will do in that situation
    2. Add a conversation to the following picture to make it as romantic as possible. (Of course the concept of ?oromantic? depends on your own opinion. It may be funny or ironic or whatever, it?Ts up to you)

Here is logic problem for you to solve. Work out your answers on a separate piece of paper and write your answers under each problem. Think well!
    1. Alan, Bob, and Casey are members of the football team. The quarterback has never
missed a practice. Casey is taller than the quarterback. Bob couldnâ?Tt practice for a week after
he injured his hand on the halfbackâ?Ts helmet. Of the three positionsâ?"tight end, halfback, and quarterbackâ?"which ones do Alan, Bob, and Casey play?

    Topic for today :
    WHATõ?TS IN A SMILE?
Part 1: Work in groups. Look at this expression and discuss the questions.
ù,Đ When do people say this?
ù,Đ What do you say in your language?
ù,Đ Do you find it easy to smile for photographs?
Part 2: Fill in the gaps with the most suitable words.
According to research from the USA, we smile for many different reasons.
ù,Đ Thereõ?Ts the (1)_________/_________ smile. When two people are having a conversation, the listener smiles to encourage the speaker.
ù,Đ Thereõ?Ts the (2)__________ smile. This is the sort of smile you make when your aunt gives you a horrible birthday present.
ù,Đ Thereõ?Ts the (3)__________ smile. For example, when you go to the dentist, and he tells you that you need to have a (4)________ taken out.
Very often, these (5)________ smiles are not real: they are õ?o(6)_______õ? smiles. (6)________ smiles are easy to do õ?" you just have to tighten the muscles on your (7)_________.
But thereõ?Ts only one smile that is the smile of true enjoyment. This smile is extremely hard to fake. It involves the muscles at the corners of the (8)___________ and the muscles around the eyes.
When someone gives a true smiles, the (9)__________ get smaller, and you see little (10)__________ around the edge. The (11)___________ go up, and on some people, (12)___________ appear in their cheeks.
The genuine smile of enjoyment not only makes us feel good, but it makes others feel good too.
Part 3: The way you smile can show what sort of person you are. Read the article below and match one of the heading (a-d) to each paragraph (1-4)
    a) Shy and sensitive b) Cheeky c) Confident d) Sociable
    1. This is the smile of a joke. The raised eyebrows and dimples in the cheeks show a good sense of humour and a warm personality. This sort of person is often a bit of a rebel õ?" they have little respect for authority.
    2. The wide, toothy smile shows that this person is easy-going and friendly. They enjoy being in a crowd and are good fun to go out with. Theyõ?Tre always looking for the next party.
    3. The smile is in the eyes. This is a sensitive person, and a loyal friend. This sort of person thinks before they speak and is a good listener. They donõ?Tt like to be the centre of attention in a crowd.
    4. This is a smile that says, õ?oI know it allõ?. This type of person is very sure of themselves. They like a good argument, and they usually win. Theyõ?Tre hard-working and very ambitious. And they can be quite bossy.
    Part 4: õ?oNot smile/laugh contestõ?
    Details to be revealed later.

Below is the topic for today, 15/07/07:
How to make an effective public speech
?oBe the best you can bê?

Every week, we join a Hyec discussion on one topic. After that , volunteers probably would like to share their ideas by making a presentation - one kind of public speaking. Even though what we say - the content - is very important, a clear structure and the way we deliver our speech contribute to an effective presentation as well. In our discussion today, we wish you to share opinions about public speaking skills needed and point out the best ways to give a successful public speech
    1. How do you evaluate your public speaking skills? (Eg. excellent, good, average, bad)
    2. How much do you think public speaking is contributing to our success at work; at school; at public places ...?
    3. Here is a list of things included in public speaking skills. Please pick up 2 things that are the most difficult for you and find out the ways to deal with them.

~ Non-verbal language (eye contact, movement, body language)
~ Verbal language (fluency, word choice, grammar, voice control)
    ~ Self-confidence
    ~ Experience
    ~ Time management
    ~ Beginning or ending speech
    ~ Speech structure
    ~ Handling questions
