Time management is one of the most important things in the IELTS writing test.

Both the Academic and General IELTS writing tests are 60mins long and these are suggested to be divided into the following:
    Task 1 report - 20mins
    Task 2 essay - 40mins.

However, we find that it's a good idea to divide the time even further! Why do this? Most students spend way too little time planning their essay and too long writing the introduction, many students therefore only have 30secs or less to write the conclusion!

To fix this CNR suggests the following for the task 2 essay.

    Analyse the question - 1min
    Brainstorm ideas - 4mins
    Plan your answer - 3mins
    Write - 30mins
    Introduciton - 5mins
    Body paragraph 1 - 10mins
    Body paragraph 2 - 10mins
    Conclusion - 5mins
    Check your work - 2mins
How would you divide your time for the task 1 report?

Finally, if one of the paragraphs has to be reduced, then reduce the conclusion. Sometimes a 1 sentence conclusion can be enough. Just make 100% certain your opinion is clear and that you do actually have a conclusion.
