Can u help me with these 2 questions ?

Q1 : In which situations do we say this ?
1 - Get urself a drink !
2 - I bought myself a pair of shoes.
3 - Plz urself !
4 - Is there a D-I-Y ( do it urself ) shop near here ?
Q2 : Fill in the blank ( that''s an idiom !!! )
In my patched jeans & torn shirt, i stuck out like a _____ thumb at that elegant ****tail party.

Not quite sure what you''re asking for because all the above mentioned sentences speak for their contexts pretty clearly. o_o It''s just like asking, in which context do you say "Con an com roi!"
However, I''ll give it a try.
1- Get ourself a drink! - is often used at home-hosted, or home-set parties, where you are asked to ''make yourself at home'', and so are freely to choose whichever drink to take, and however much you want.
2- I bought myself a pair of shoes - is often used when you are telling someone that you have -finally- done something for yourself, that is you are deserving and worthy of such treat.
3- Please yourself! is when you are conversing with somebody, and is frustrated by their attitude. They keep on begging you for something that is truly unreasonable, and keep saying "Please", you get frustrated and your anger and frustration is triggered, and there goes "Please yourself!"
4 - Is there a D-I-Y ( do it urself ) shop near here ? - I think it''s pretty self-explanitaroy. But in a ''sarcastic'' context, it is used when someone asks you to help or do something for them, and you''re again, frustrated (pretty much like context 3), and say such statement, in order to ''hint'' for the person to do it themself.
For your second part of the question, that is filling in the idiom, I must admit I haven''t heard of the phrase "thumb", however, my best bet must be "old". However..o_o..honestly, I do not know and have never came across that.

Chào Sil, sao em giỏi tiếng Anh thế? Anh học đến đâu là quên đến đấy! Em đang/đã từng sống/học tập/làm việc ở nước ngoài rồi à? Sao giỏi dữ vậy? Sao em thuộc nhiều từ vậy? Chỉ cho anh một số bí quyết nhớ từ với, anh đang ôn thi GRE nhưng mỗi ngày chỉ nhớ được 20 từ mới thôi. Sao khó qúa vậy?

Hahha, có lẽ đây là lần đầu tiên mình đánh telex ^^ và viết Tiếng Việt ở trong English Box.
There is no ''special secret'' in my learning English..^^ apart from my impossible obsession for corny, and cheap romantic novels and movies..^^;;. I used to just buy lots and lots of English romance novels, and read, even if I didnd''t understand (OH!! I understood "kiss" and "love") just to see what happens..and then I started to write and create my own love stories, because (i wonder if I can make him do this..and her do that!!). And then I became obsessed with reading and writing for a very long time. ^^ To add to it, I have worked and studied in an English-speaking country for awhile (As to where, when and how long We shall keep it a mystery for now).
However, =) Thank you so much for your kind and generous comments. Your English is actually, rather excellent for almost all Vietnamese that I have met, aren''t able to communicate with such decent English.
A tip though , English is only hard, and you can only remember 20 words perday is because you -force- yourself to memorize those words. The key is to -want- to, and only learn the words you want to learn, interesting words. =) Best of luck to your GRE, I''m sure you''ll do great!

Sil, your english is completely amazing unlike many other vietnamese that i''ve met. Some of them speak in broken english but yet think themselves as native American as if English is their mother tongue language.
I have a feeling you''re currently living somewhere outside of the country.

Thank you Mila , but I must admit that alot of the people in this forum amaze me with their English abilities. To be born and taught in Vietnam and yet, achieving such incredible levels of English, is just beyond me.

Hi Sil, a private question but how long have you learning Eng. as formal edu (i.e. attending courses, or sth like that but not by yourself). and how many years have you been using it?

bí quyết của bạn Sil thực ra rất đơn giản và được nhắc đến nhiều, nhưng thực hiện được hay không lại là vấn đề khác. đó là đọc đọc và đọc, bởi vì với bất kỳ ngôn ngữ nào chứ không riêng gì tiếng Anh, chỉ có đọc thật nhiều sách mới là cách tốt nhất để học từ và hiểu được cách dùng từ một cách thích hợp trong từng văn cảnh. một số người muốn đạt được điều này thì cần phải nỗ lực rất nhiều, nhưng với một số người khác thì lại đạt được một cách tiềm ẩn (subliminaly) ví dụ như bạn Sil đây đọc sách romance là niềm vui thích, đồng thời bạn còn muốn tự mình viết được những câu chuyện đó, nên bạn tiếp thu những kiến thức đó một cách rất tự nhiên.
Mình nói vậy không biết có đúng không? ;P
