John Coltrane và những âm thanh mê hoặc của cây kèn Saxophone

John William Coltrane (1926-1967) là nghệ sỹ kèn saxophone và cũng là nhà sáng tác nhạc. Ông được coi là một trong nhừng nhân vật quan trọng và nhiều ảnh hưởng nhất tới các nghệ sỹ jazz và các và các nhà soạn nhạc trong thế kỷ 20.


Những năm đầu sự nghiệp
Sinh ra tại North Carolina, Coltrane trưởng thành trong một xã hội đầy rẫy nạn phân biệt chủng tộc. Năm ông học lớp 7, ông chứng kiến 3 cái chết của những người thân và sau đó ông bắt đầu chơi nhạc một cách đầy ám ảnh. Trong thời gian đầu, âm nhạc của ông có ảnh hưởng của tín ngưỡng một cách nặng nề. Ban đầu ông chơi clarinet và chuyển sang chơi Alto saxophone. Cuối những năm 40, ông làm một số nghề khác nhau và đến năm 49 thì chơi cho ban nhạc của Dizzy Gillespie.


Với nhóm ngũ tấu của Miles Davis
Mặc dù có một số thu thanh từ năm 46 nhưng mãi đến năm 55, những tác phẩm của ông mới được công chúng đón nhận. Năm 55 ông chơi trong nhóm ngũ tấu của Miles Davis để thay thế Sonny Rollins (Sonny Rollins cũng là một tên tuổi lớn trong dòng jazz sax, tôi sẽ giới thiệu với các bạn vào dịp khác). Cuối năm 57, ông chơi cùng Thelonious Monk nhưng sự hợp tác này không được như mong muốn có lẽ vì họ không thực sự hợp nhau lắm.

Tuy vậy "Blue Train" lại là một solo quá nổi tiếng của ông trong giai đoạn này.


Cũng giông như Stan Getz tôi đã giới thiệu ở bài trước, John Coltrane cũng từng dính đến nàng tiên nâu. Sau khi từ bỏ heroin, năm 58 ông quay lại chơi trong nhóm của Miles Davis và tập trung cho âm nhạc của ông. Từ năm 58 đến 60, ông chơi trong nhóm lục tấu của Miles và nghệ sỹ alto sax Cannonball Adderley và tay trống Philly Joe Jones. Các album quan trọng trong giai đoạn này la "Milestones", "Kind Of Blue", và đáng chú ý nhất là "Giant Steps ".


Năm 61 ông ký hợp đồng với hãng Atlantic Records và cho ra album mà tôi rất thích là Olé Coltrane.

Album được thu thanh tại A&R Studios, New York, New York ngày 25-5-196. Album này mang tinh thần của Châu Phi, nơi đã sinh ra mẹ ông. Coltrane đã phát triển ý tưởng và bổ sung tính ngẫu hứng để mô tả nỗi nhớ quê hương sâu sắc của mình. Các tác phẩm trong album này rất có giai điệu và khá phức tạp.
"Ole" mang tính kích thích rất cao và được đánh giá là một thành công vĩ đại của John Coltrane. Tiếng trống thôi miên của Elvin Jones, tiếng bass bập bùng của Workman và Davis, tiếng piano róc rách của Tyner đã tạo ra những âm thanh đảo phách của điệu nhảy xứ Iberia (Bồ Đào Nha), của miền gió nóng châu Phi, hay của những đêm huyền diệu Ấn Độ. Tiếng Soprano Sax của Coltrane phát ra những âm thanh đầy suy tư mặc tưởng. Cùng với mỗi đoạn solo flute của Dolphy, hay nhịp điệu của những chiến sỹ đấu bò tót Tây Ban Nha do Hubbard phụ trách, hay điệu Flamenco mơ màng của Tyner, giai điệu trở nên đen tối và ám ảnh hơn. Và đột nhiên xuất hiện với tấm thảm bay, Coltrane cùng với tiếng soprano làm bùng lên ngọn lửa của lòng kính Chúa.
Những âm thanh của điệu nhảy Dahomey được thể hiện trong bài "Dahomey Dance". "Aisha" - một bản ballad đầy chất thơ của Tyner là những điệu valse liên tục không biết mệt mỏi. Album được kết thúc với "To Her Ladyship" với những suy tư triền miên của Flute khiến người nghe thấy mình đang ở một thế giới khác.
Thật khó dùng từ để diễn tả những cảm xúc trong "Ole Coltrane". Tôi chỉ muốn nói với các bạn là hãy nghe đi và tự có những bình luận theo cảm xúc của các bạn!!!

As the fourth (fifth, if you count the Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel) entry in Columbia''s celebrated series of Miles Davis box sets, The Complete Columbia Recordings: Miles Davis & John Coltrane was perhaps the most anticipated set, and it''s easy to see why. The push and pull between Miles and Coltrane resulted in dynamic recordings that set the standard for modern jazz and this was for their Prestige recordings, before they even moved to Columbia. Once Miles relocated to Columbia, he began to push the boundaries of his music. The progression from the sublime, after-hours ''Round About Midnight to the modal Milestones is remarkable all the more so when Kind of Blue, the culmination of Davis'' modal direction, is taken into the equation. Over the course of six discs, The Complete Columbia Recordings traces this progression, including the entirety of ''Round About Midnight, Milestones, and Kind of Blue, plus selections from Someday My Prince Will Come, live album cuts, and 18 unreleased tracks, all alternate takes. Even if you''re familiar with this music and any jazz fan will be the chronological, session-order sequencing keeps it fresh, and it''s possible to marvel at how quickly their talents deepened. tdev cũng ức bọn rapidshare này lắm, khi nào rảnh rỗi lắm thì mới dùng proxy download vài cái cho vui . còn ko thì thôi , cạch luôn .
