    To hcn8295,
Maybe I did not make myself very clear . I am talking about syntax error, misspellings in a formal, academic environment , i.e. college application, job application . Not the informal, colloquial situation . I guess you did not hear horror stories after horror stories about high-school graduates who could not write a decent , correct English sentence .
I don't quite understand your hostility . I was praising the talent, the skill of some of the members on this forum . What's so wrong about that ? Tell me what did I do that irate you ? Well, judging by your condescending tone in calling me "young men" (sic) , I gather that you are old . I always thought that, with age comes wisdom . Not ! .
Per your profile, you are living in America . And, I am sorry to say that I can not fully comprehend your so-called "English" . Please re-read your posting and you will understand why it would only enforce my belief that some of the members in this SEC are better in written English than people living in America .
    I rest my case !
(I apologize to the rest of the forum about this unpleasant exchange . I have a lot of respect for this forum and only want to express my compliments to this amazing pool of talents )

    Hey Ya'll
Let me be the mediator! There is no so-called perfection!!!
I 've spent my most of my life in Vietnam and to foreigners who hardly ever understand my mother-tongue, they think my Vietnamese is swell.Yet, when i go home and talk to my old folks, they never stop complaining about the myriad of faults in my spoken Vietnamese.
while the literacy level in each nation greatly depends on the education system, there are many subtle factors and facets that impact on the way people show their understanding, acknowledgement in their writing. I usually find myself lost in a context where Northern Vietnamese is mostly used as I originally am from the South
It's true that the U.S government worry about the increasing number of people who can't write grammatically correct, but it may be exaggerative to say that most of Americans can't write well. If so, a quoted source would be helpful!
    Peace out!

It's not wealth one asks for, but just enough to preserve one's dignity, to work unhampered,to be generous, to be independent

    Johntrung,
Thanks for your good intention . Here is an article from the Miami Herald I picked up in Yahoo :

A crisis of literacy for kids
    BY SONJI JACOBS, sajacobs@herald.com
    First of three parts
More than 142,000 South Florida public school students share a sad secret. They can barely read.
They make up more than 28 percent of third- through 10th-graders in Broward and nearly 43 percent in Miami-Dade County. These nonreaders are wealthy and middle class and poor. They are white and Hispanic and black.
If they are 10th-graders, they can't understand this newspaper article.
If they are seventh-graders, they struggle through a classic children's book such as Charlotte's Web.
Many students say they had no idea that they had fallen so far behind.

Just a tidbit news to make my point . Well, let's just say that we agree to disagree .
I was just enjoying this forum and, without provocation was spilled with derogatory and condescending remark . I'll let hcn9285's posting be a concrete proof to my statement .
By the way, you are living in the US too ? No wonder your English is pretty slick .
Have a nice day, buddy .
