Fiber-Optic High Speed Data Bus (HSDB) -- The HSDB is the control link among major processing subsystems. This high-speed (80 Mb/s) bus allows the transmission of information among avionics subsystems over a single pair of small optical fibers. It is one of the key elements in the common avionics module approach that reduces the size, weight, and cost of avionics systems. Flat Panel Displays -- Harris has developed two displays using ruggedized commercial glass AMLCDs for use in the Comanche. A total of eight displays are used in the aircraft. These full color, sunlight readable, NVIS compatible displays provide situational awareness and aircraft flight information on 8" x 6" displays and status and A/C health on 3.5" x 4.5" displays. Digital Map Generator (DMG) -- The DMG uses stored terrain data to generate moving terrain map presentations eliminating the need for paper maps in the ****pit and to improve the pilot''s situational awareness. These map presentations can either be digitized representations of standard aeronautical charts or topographical displays created from digitized elevation and cultural feature data. Symbology overlays are added to show mission features such as waypoints, flightpaths, threat and target positions and assist the pilot with terrain-aided navigation and ground collision avoidance.
