    Little Things

    Too often we don't realize
    what we have until it is gone;
Too often we wait too late to say
    "I'm sorry - I was wrong."
Sometimes it seems we hurt the ones
    we hold dearest to our hearts;
    And we allow foolish things
    to tear our lives apart.

Far too many times we let
    unimportant things into our minds;
And then it's usually too late
to see what made us blind.

So be sure that you let people know
    how much they mean to you;
Take that time to say the words
    before your time is through.

    Be sure that you appreciate
    everything you've got
    And be thankful for the
    little things in life
    that mean a lot.

(Remind your friends to appreciate the little
    things in life!)

I want to be in another place.
I hate when you say you don't understand.
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy.
    A place for my head.

The Rose that Grew from Concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

    Just keep being you!
Just because no one has been fortunate enough
to realize what a gem you are...
doesn't mean you shine any less!
Just because no one has been smart enough
to figure out that you can't be topped...
doesn't stop you from being the best.
Just because the right person hasn't
come along to share your life...
doesn't mean that day isn't coming.
Just because no one has made
    this race seem worth while...
doesn't mean you should stop running!
Just because no one has shown up
who can love you on your level...
doesn't mean you have to sink to theirs.
    Just because you deserve
    the very best there is...
doesn't mean that life is always fair.
Just because you haven't yet found your king,
doesn't mean that you're not already a queen.
Just because your situation doesn't seem
    to be progressing right now...
doesn't mean you need to change a thing!
    Keep shining, keep running,
    Keep hoping, keep praying,
Keep being exactly what you are already...

    Octavio Paz (1914-1998)- Mexico

    Wind and Water and Stone
    The water hollowed the stone,
    the wind dispersed the water,
    the stone stopped the wind.
    Water and wind and stone.
    The wind sculpted the stone,
the stone is a cup of water,
The water runs off and is wind.
    Stone and wind and water.
The wind sings in its turnings,
the water murmurs as it goes,
    the motionless stone is quiet.
    Wind and water and stone.
One is the other and is neither:
    among their empty names
    they pass and disappear,
    water and stone and wind.

    IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

    For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
    to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
    to say "I love you,"
    And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
    young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
    why not do it today?
    For if tomorrow never comes,
    you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
    and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
    And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

MY MOTHER DOESN'T KNOW I'M ON THE STAGE
    by
    Billy Bennett
    (Almost a Gentleman)
I'm cherishing a secret in my bosom
About the dreadful stage-life that I lead
I've heard it said that Pro's are decent people
But according to the papers that I read
Both actresses and actors are dead 'wrong-uns'
Whether from the 'Palace' or the 'Hippodrome'
The chaps I meet outside know I'm an actor
But I never breathe a word of it at home.
So, my mother doesn't know that I'm an actor
It would break her poor old heart if she found out
    She knows I'm a deserter,
    From the Scottish Fuseliers
    She knows I stole a blind-man's can...
    That got me seven years!
    She knows I've been connected
With a gang of West-End Pests
And the police have had me twice inside the cage
And she knows I mix with ladies that have got a shady past
But my mother doesn't know I'm on the stage.
Sometimes she sees the powder on my clothing
And then it's such a nuisence to explain
If she thought that it was powder she'd go crazy
Of course, I have to tell her it's cocaine.
The day she met me out with Gladys Cooper
She started screaming, "Murder!" and "Police!"
And would have caused a dreadful scene in public
So I told her that the girl was 'Crippen's' niece.
'Cos', my mother doesn't know I'm on the stage
And when I draw six hundred pounds a week
If she knew where it came from
She would shoot me like a dog
So I told her I'd stole the moneybox
    From an Irish Synagogue
She can think that I'm a murderer
    Before she'll know the truth
I have to have respect for her old age
And she knows that I'm a bigamist, a blaggard and a crook
But thank Heaven she don't know I'm on the stage.
I want to be in another place.
I hate when you say you don't understand.
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy.
    A place for my head.

    Big Mary
    Mary had a little lamb,
    a little toast,
    a little jam,
    a little pizza
    and some cake,
    some French fries
    and a chocolate shake,
    a little burger
    on a bun.
    And that's why Mary
    weighs a ton.
I want to be in another place.
I hate when you say you don't understand.

    It's Not Too Different
It's not too different ... way down here
    The sun's a bit hotter ... It's a good drop 'o beer
It's not too way out ... in a strange sort of way
If ya get a good day's work in ... ya get a good day's pay.
There's just one or two thing's ... that ya have to put up with.
Nothin' too much to handle ... just a little hard to live with
Like the ****roaches ... and lizards, and snakes in the yard.
I've tried to ignore 'em ... but I'm finding it hard.
It's not that they ... want to bother me like.
But when I see 'em, I'd just rather ... Hop on me bike.
If ya can put up with the creepies ... and the big hairy crawlies
and the thing's that go bump in the night ...
    where the hall is.
If ya can just turn your back ... on the munchies and bities
That hide in ya jammies ... and creep into ya nighties.
I'd recommend it if ya coming to stay for a spell
To get your injections ... if ya don't it's just hell.
It's lovely down here though ... in the tropical bit.
If ya could just find a place ... where ya could just safely sit!
Please mother-in-law ... It ain't all that bad
And the wife's missing you ... it's driving 'er made
So visit if ya must ... there's not too much to fear
We're all missing you madly ... it's a shame your not 'ere.
I want to be in another place.
I hate when you say you don't understand.
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy.

    The New Dress
A lady walked into the room to show hubby her new dress,
She was a rather large lady - around forty two in the chest.
The dress was cut really low - showed off her feminine shape,
Her husband's eyes almost popped - all he could do was gape!
"Where did you get that dress, my dear?" said hubby with a grin.
"There seems to be more of you out of it - than there is within.
You really look desirable, dear! It's the greatest dress by far!
You really look ***y, especially as your not wearing a bra!"
"How did you know that I had no bra?" she asked her loving spouse.
"Now don't you get me wrong my dear! That dress, it looks real grouse!
I can tell you have no bra on, dear, behind all that frill and lace,
I can tell real easy - 'cause all the wrinkles have gone from your face!"
I want to be in another place.
I hate when you say you don't understand.
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy.

    Heaven
A man and his dog were walking along a road.
The man was enjoying the scenery,
when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.
    He remembered dying,
and that the dog had been dead for years.
He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high,
white stone wall along one side of the road.
    It looked like fine marble.
At the top of a long hill,
it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it,
he saw a magnificent gate in the arch
that looked like mother of pearl,
and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.
He and the dog walked toward the gate,
    and as he got closer,
he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out,
    "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?"
    the man asked.
    "Of course, sir.
Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."
The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
    "Can my friend,"
gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
    The man thought a moment
and then turned back toward the road and continued
the way he had been going.
    After another long walk,
and at the top of another long hill,
he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate
that looked as if it had never been closed.
    There was no fence.
As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside,
leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the reader.
    "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there"
The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen
    from outside the gate.
    "Come on in."
    "How about my friend here?"
the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
    They went through the gate,
    and sure enough,
there was an old fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.
The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself,
then he gave some to the dog.
    When they were full,
he and the dog walked back toward the man
who was standing by the tree waiting for them.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said.
"The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates?
    Nope. That's Hell."
    "Doesn't it make you mad
for them to use your name like that?"
"No. I can see how you might think so,
but we're just happy that they screen out the folks
who'll leave their best friends behind."
I want to be in another place.
I hate when you say you don't understand.
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I want to be in the energy, not with the enemy.
    A place for my head.
