    Hi ,
Thank you for creating this thread about movies.
I am a great fan of motion picture. Horror, comedy, action, thriller, drama...you name it; I am into most genres. My childhood went along well with Hong Kong movies including great ,protracted dramas from Jin Hong (Kim Dung) , and butt-kicking flicks starring big names like Jackie Chang, Bruce Lee, Sammo Hung ....Looking back on the old times when VCR was a rare luxury , I remember ridding my bicycle for hours just to get a chance to see my favorites namely Journey to the West, or The Condor Hero...In some way, movies have fulfilled my childhood fantasy about the world outside I have always dreamt about.

With the advent of vcd and dvd, I have been more exposed to western movies especially American movies. As a matter of fact, my thirst for improving my poor English has geared me toward English speaking movies gradually. The more I coop myself up in the house watching new releases, the more deeply I fall in love with American movies. Itõ?Ts not a bluffing commentary at all when one says American movies are the top-notch. By quantity of movies made annually, American movies may be way behind those of India and Hong Kong who have been long known as movie kingdoms. Yet, no one can doubt that American movies offer finest form of entertainment all around the world. As far as I can tell, what makes Hollywood so successful are a combination embodied in each movie: cinematography, content and excellent acting skills. Havenõ?Tt you ever been so engaged in õ?o Silence of the lambsõ?? when the box-office reached the climax with eerie background music and terrifying scenes ? Or Do your hearts still õ?o go on õ?? with õ?oTitanicõ???

While American movies are so entertaining to watch, there are some drawbacks that might mitigate your enjoyment. Language barriers (who understands fast-paced dialogs in the courtroom in õ?o My Cousin Vinnyõ???), cultural difference (who the heck is James Brown in Jackie Chanõ?Ts recent comedy, The Tuxedo?) , lower- than-average dubbing ( I still remember that the guy who did the dubbing for an action movie translated õ?oMay Day, May Dayõ?? as õ?o Chao mung ngay quoc te Lao dong õ?o while the dubbed scene was a sinking helicopter calling for helpõ??) .... are turn-off things that you might want to diminish if you really want to enjoy watching a movie
Ok enough blah blahõ?Ư Here are some of my favorites that Iõ?Td like to share with you guys. Certainly, there are hundreds of good movies worth watching, but I just jot down some that you might not have seen. I hope youõ?Tll find them interesting enough.
1.The Shawshank Redemption : one of my all-time favs. I have been watching this movie several times as the message behind the movie is so uplifting and meaningful.
Synopsis : A beautiful crafted movie features a touching story between two prison inmates played by Morgan Freeman (Red) and Tim Robbins ( Andy). Andy is sentenced for two consecutive life-terms for the murder of his lover, a crime which he actually never committed. Brutalized and abused by the hardship of prison life and a crooked warden , Andy overcomes all to achieve his ultimate goal: freedom
2.Braveheart : needless to say, this 5-Oscar winner embraced my heart when I first saw it. I think Mel Gibson reached his peak of acting career in this heroic movie
Synopsis : Mel starred in the role of Wallace, a Scottish man who just yearned for a simple life with his family. Yet, when the English captured Scotlandõ?Ts throne and executed his wife in his witness, Wallace stood up and gathered a fearless rebellious Scottish army to fight against a more predominant English army. His life was finally deprived but his fellows continued the heroõ?Ts footsteps to full gain autonomy for Scotland.
    Recommended to see:
3.Wonder Years : another all-time fav. You might not be able to find this TV series if you donõ?Tt have a cable TV. It is a very cute movie. Youõ?Tll love it!!!!
Synopsis : This series beautifully depicts Americans in 1960s and 1970s through the ups and downs of an American boy in a typical American family . You will absolutely fall in love with characters like Kevin Arnold (the boy), Paul Pfeifer (his best friend), Winnie Cooper(his girlfriend)õ?Ư The series ended in 1989 since its TV debut in 1981
4.My cousin Vinny : youõ?Tll laugh out loud with this hilarious flick.
Synopsis : A boy is involved in a fuzzy murder and desperately called for the help of his cousin, a clumsy New York-born lawyer. Funny courtroom dialogs are the core of this box office.

    Dear Di,
It's my pleasure to be a member of SEC. I'll write whenever i have time :0)
Yes, I watched Vanila Sky once at the theater. The movie seems complicated with Tom being transfered back and forth between reality and illusion. Yet, after watching the end when the character jumb off the building, you would not think the movie is that complicated because the underlying message is clearly
depicted : Live today and build for tomorrow. I would rank this movie B as I don't really enjoy it as much as other Tom's movies. Have you watched Jerry Mcquire yet? Very nice acting from Tom as a sport agent
As usual as other movies starring TOm Cruise, this movie is still raking in some gross numbers. According to a survey (if I still remember correctly), Tom has helped the movie industry to reap more than 1 billion dollars in profits with all the movies he starred in.
    Have fun

No, both of you were wrong. The actor played Mr. Deeds (2002) is the hilarious Adam Sandler. He was also in My Big Daddy, The Water Boy, The Wedding Singer and he used to be one of the funniest cast member of the long-run comedy show Saturday Night Live
