Computers do not help children learn more effectively. On the contrary, the use of computers has a negative effect on children's physical and mental development. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In our time and age, much debate has taken place about effects of the use of computers on children. A majority of people hold the opinion that computers do not make children learn more effectively. By contrast, the access of computers gives a lot of disadvantages to children's physical and mental development. However, there are also some people who strongly have the idea that computers help children develop their creativity and update infomation quickly. From my own perspective, using computers can be either beneficial or harmful, moderation is more important.
There are numerous reasons why I hold this opinion, and I would explore a few of the most important ones here. Firstly, excessive use of computers is obviously harmful to children's physical, social and psychological development. Nowadays, children spend much time on sitting in front of the screen of computer instead of participating in outside activities like outdoor sports, extracurricular activities, etc...As a result there are more and more children with their eye troubles as well as backbone ones. It goes without saying that if a child has no good health, then he is not able to get good results in his studying. Moreover, children are so interested in computers that they rarely pay attention people's relationships and matters around them. They will have no essential skills at communicating to others and organizing social activities that give benefits for their development.

The second thing that must be taken into consideration is that excessive access of computers is also the main reason for children's increased exposure to violent and ***ual contents beyond their years. In fact, there are so many infomation sources on the Internet including bad or good news. With children's curiousness, it is easy for them to approach bad information through computers connected to the internet. As you can see, violent games or films contain unhealthy contents in computers give children not good outlook on life. It is a pity that many children become criminals and some of them reached prison sentence.
Despite the negative effects of computer access, people can take advantage of computer technology in different fields of education and research. In Western countries, children are encouraged to use computers at an early age in order to develop their creativity and keep pace with the lastest infomation. In Viet Nam, most students in all universities need a computer to study and research. Especially, Computers connected to the Internet are extremely important to researchers and students in the universities of Science.

From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that healthy and appropriate use of computers will help children take advantages of computer technology effectively. Teachers and parents should manage children's computer using time strictly and teach them how to avoid from the ill effects of bad news.

From my own perspective, we should analyze this issue from a different side. Particular advantages and disadvantages that it brings.

A sizeable percentage of people assert that studying abroad allows one to gain a real knowledge of a new culture and a new language. students can enhance their foreign language skills through the each day activities.not suprisingly, even simple everyday experiences, such as buying food and mailing letter, can help imrove language proficiency .not only are leaning new the intellectual but the are also receptiving of diverse cultural identity as civilized lifestyle. Acquiring to the innovation of advanced scientific and reverse the backward thinking. On the other hand that many students will learn how to take care of themselves and live independently .they might have initial difficulties in fulfilling even the simplest tasks at the very beginning, such as queue when shopping , doing laundry and setting accouts for electricity. However, the challenges and dificulties innitialy giving them more experience gradually adapting and more mature. The second thing that must be taken into consideratipn is that it might have it is drawbacks.most of studens are lack of life experience when they first travel overseas. Failure to cope with the problems that arise from their everyday lives might cause frustration. They feel helpless, suffer homesick and in worse cases, have a breakdown. Even some students absorb the culture is considered negative to make them do not recognize myself anymore.

From what has been discussed above, i think the correct attitude is that studying abroad poses both opportunities and challenges. The opportunities for personal growth and develop an appreciation of cultural differences and it can going to say : inclusive not soluble.that is not to lose the cultutal identity of you country.

The given line graph illustrates information on the percentage of teenagers who attend certain outdoor sports between 1975 and present day.
During the period, the levels of participation in ball games have deteriorated erratically. In 1975, it was the most popular sport and now it is the second popular. The percentage of the Youth who ride bikes and roller skate has also plummeted gradually and went down from 25 to 16 per cent.
On the other hand, the most dramatically climb has been in the percentage of young swimmers – this has moved upward by almost 20 per cent, from 14 to 34 per cent, with the biggest leap since 2000.
Meanwhile, there has been a fluctuation in the percentage of young people who jog and run. After skyrocketing markedly, between 1985 and 1995 it took a nosedive from 13 to 9 per cent and then it has soared again to 15 per cent in the present day.
Overall, although there has been a big surge in the percentage of young swimmers, the levels of participation in ball games, biking and roller skating have gone into free- fall. Therefore, teenagers have been anticipated to be less and less keen on playing outdoor sports, except for swimming.

A majority of people have the idea that pursuing educational opportunities overseas is a life- transforming chance. From my own perspective, studying abroad has both advantages and disadvantages.
No one can deny the fact that studying abroad is fantastic opportunity to gain meaningful knowledge of new cultures and new languages. To interact and communicate with native speakers daily, students are forced to use the native language or international language so they can improve their foreign language skills. Moreover, to make acquaintance with new life in a strange country, students also have to research about the culture of that country. The reason for that truth is they can be shocked with tra***ional local habits or lifestyle. For example, Asian students might be surprised to find that communication in Western countries is starkly open and straightforward, in sharp contrast to the intense use of non- verbal messages in communication in their home countries. The good way to find information about a country’s culture is doing simple daily activities with local citizens, doing part-time jobs or reading magazines and books. It also helps them to improve language proficiency.
The second advantage of studying abroad is that students can learn how to take care of themselves and live independently. When they go oversea to study, they don’t have the protection of their parents anymore. Students have to do everything by themselves, such as: cooking, doing laundry, making living environment, grocery shopping and so on. In ad***ion, making acquaintance with new friends from other countries, other languages is a great chance to develop students’ social skills which is a great value to their careers later in life.
On the other hand, there are also some difficulties which students have to face with when they study abroad. Language difference and culture shock at the beginning can make students have a pessimistic attitude. Moreover, the living fees is high so students have to balance their finance, they have to be more independent and economic. Living far away from their home countries, their family and friends also make them helpless, suffer homesick and in worse case, have a breakdown.
From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that studying abroad poses both opportunities and challenges. In my opinion, students with youth and aspiration to gain new knowledge and find out good opportunities can easily overcome the difficulty and stress of living and studying abroad.

Topic 81: Wearing uniforms is popular in schools, but some people argue that it might cause damage to children's individuality. What is your opinion?

It is an undisputable fact that wearing uniforms is very common in schools or even is considered as a compulsive norm in elementary and secondary schools in many countries. There, however, is an increasingly growing claim that because children have their own self-expression and uniforms piss some of them off, this rule might cause damage to children’s individuality. Admittedly, it sounds a great statement, but is it true that individuality of one person only determined through clothes? Facts have shown that there are variety of factors affect one’s individuality, say, their behaviors, their characteristics, their clothes, etc, but not only uniform. That’s why America, a nation of individualism, still requires uniforms in some elementary and secondary schools. In ad***ion, if a child desire to show off his individuality, he can add some kinds of accessories with his uniforms and, dress up other clothing like make-up, jewellery, or trendy clothing after school to fulfill his satisfaction.
What’s more? Wearing uniforms carries a lot of benefits. For starters, one positive outcome of this is eliminating the gap between the rich and the poor among pupils for showing off stylish clothes. Studying in a homogeneous education and wearing similar clothes, students see themselves as others, treat their friends equally; hence, reducing competition among them. For example, according to a study recorded the level of violence in public schools where wearing school uniforms is a norm is less than that in some private schools where students are freedom with their styles.
Another gain from this is that with uniform, students, not having a headache of wondering how to dress in the class, feel more comfortable and happier. As a result, thanks to uniforms, students can concentrate on their studies without any distractions, then their performances at school will be better; pushing the education developed. This picture can be seen in any education systems, take the case of Vietnam as a proof, since students required to wear uniforms, their performances or academic results to be exact are much more beautiful than those in 1950s.
All things considered, regardless of any points to the contrary, I can confidently say that the advantages of school uniforms overwhelm its disadvantages

Group 1: Topic 73 : In many countries, the proportion of older people is increasing steadily. Do you think it is a positive or negative change to the society?

Along with the modernization and industrialization, many problems have arisen in the society including the declining of the birth rate and the growing rapidly of the elderly people. From my own perspective, the concerns about an ageing population are entirely based. The following analysis will take a closer look to the issue.

In fact, increasing older people means life standard has been improved and health services have made remarkable progress. It also marks the development of human being, as we can see nowadays people have a fuller life than ever before. Moreover, with the older workforce, there are many well-trained resources that have skill and experience.

However, it should be noted that the ageing population has brought many negative effects to many countries all over the world. Trend of increasing number of elderly will increase the burdens on economic and social stability to maintain their healthy life. Thus, demand for elderly care (medical, social, financial) will be a challenge. Elderly people need more health care, while the cost for this object is also 7-8 times higher than children. Especially in underdeveloped countries, ageing of the labor force decreases, while the system of employment, social security for this group has not met because “they are old before they get rich”.

From what has been discussed above, I think the correct attitude is that the national community should try to transfer the ageing into the dynamics of economic and society development. Furthermore, hoping that one day the elderly is no longer a burden but it also shows a milestone of mankind in prolonging the longevity.

Topic 93: Opinions divide concerning what plays a more important role in people's
personality development, nature or nurture. What is your opinion?

Clearly, an adult’s personality is now generally considered to be made up of both here***ary and environment factors. However, what plays more important role in shaping personal traits is no simple black-and-white answer. Some people believe that an individual’s personality was the result of here***y rather than the their interaction with their environment, while the others take the opposite view. The idea of nature-versus-nurture has long been debated, with no conclusive resolution. This essay is to evaluate these two schools of thought, with some facts being closely examined.

The here***y approach argurs that the ultimate explanation of an individual’s personality is the molecular structure of the genes. Some traits such as shyness, fear, and distress are most likely cause by inherited genetic characteristics. Recent studies of identical twins who were separated at birth and raised separately found a lot in common between these twins. For instance, one set of twins who had been separated for 39 years, and raised 45 miles apart were found to drive the same model and color car, chain-smoked the same brand of cigarette and owned dogs with the same name. Thus, striking are the effects of their genetic make-up that those of the environment are obscured.

Every day, we read a lot of articles that tell about some people, born in affluent families and raised in a positive enriching environment, but still embark on a career of crime and self destruction. This is an evidence of substanital impacts of environment on shaping individual’s personalities. The culture in which they are raised, their early con***oning, the norms among their family, friends, and social groups are some nurture factors that exert pressures on personality formation. An individual’s personality, although generally stable and consistent, does change in different situations. The different demands of different situations call forth different aspects of one’s personality.

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} As suggested above, people are made up by both learned and born traits. Careful consideration of the arguments favoring either here***y or environment as the primary determinant of personality forces the conclusion that both are important. Here***y sets the parameters of outer limits, but an individual’s full potential will be determined by how well he or she adjusts to the demands and requirements of the environment.

Topic 84: Some people who have been successful in the society do not attribute their success to the theoretical knowledge they learned at university. What is your opinion on the factors contributing to one's achievement?

<FONT face=[/IMG]Along with the rapid development of society, more and more issues are brought to our attention, one of which is the efficiency of the higher education. Facts have shown that some people who have become successful in the society do not owe their success to the theoretical knowledge they got at the university, although they had great effort to obtain a qualification. From my own perspective, tertiary education plays quite essential role, but there are many other combined to achieve success.
One of the primary causes is that knowledge is normally acquired through formal education but it is not the only approach. Nowadays, throughout the learning process, the students expect not only to be acquired theoretical or academic knowledge, but also to be developed their skills such as organization, presentation, evaluation and communicate. However, the education system of Vietnam has not still provided enough these skills, experiences and rules of thumb for students. Therefore, the way to gain a mastery of them is the participation in a job or the social organizations.
Besides, we cannot forget a universal truth that with the fast changing and more competitive society, the qualifications and degrees become more common and not sought – after as much as before. Hence, to find a job or approach successful careers, we have to need not only outstanding academic qualification, but we also have other qualities of an applicant, for instance resilience, willpowers and adaptability. Facts have shown that the famous leaders such as Bill Gates and Steven Jobs, are very persistent, self-motivated, self-directed and especially have the ability to work under high pressure environment. Indeed, running toward success is more of a marathon than of a sprint. Moreover, it is undeniable that luck and opportunity only account a small proportion but determine one’s success.
Based on the above discussion, in common with knowledge, practical experience, a mastery of different skills and personality can suffice to illustrate the complex nature of personal achievement.

Topic 87: Some people think that teachers should be responsible for teaching students to
judge right and wrong and to behave well. Some say that teachers should only teach students about academic subjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Theoretically, teacher is the one who impact the knowledge to students. However, educating ethic is another important task which cannot be lack of teacher in school.
There is a lot of opinion about the issue that what the responsibility of teacher was. In my view point, in school, student not only should be taught about academic subjects, but they also have to learn how to aware the right thing to do.

First of all, the main purpose of education is to provide student with the knowledge and prepare for their future careers. Going to school, pupil studied many subjects included a lot of essential information about our wide world. With a primary pupil, everything is new and interest. A good teacher should have the ability to guide the pupil to study and inspire their attention on these subjects. Only in this way can students become independent in their future and further study.

On the other hand, apart from academic subjects, teachers need to teach students about how to tell right from wrong, and how to behave well. They believe that by doing so, students can easily adapt to the society where they may be faced with various choices, including both the good and the bad. In class time, a teacher’s behaviors, attitudes and comments on social issues will absolutely set good examples for students. Accordingly, students can develop their correct philosophy of life, and meanwhile they build up the necessary qualities, such as teamwork, patience. In this way, the students can learn how to solve the problems they meet, and how to face the difficult time.

In conclusion, teacher plays a significant role in education of students. Thus, they should not only teach various knowledge, but they also teach every social skill as well.

Topic 84: Some people who have been successful in the society do not attribute their success to the theoretical knowledge they learned at university. What is your opinion on the factors contributing to one's achievement?
.
With the advance of the human civilization, there are an increasing number of people who have raised doubts about whether some people do not owe their success to the knowledge they acquired at university, despite the great effort they ever made in obtaining a qualification. In my opinion, tertiary education itself cannot guarantee one's success, and there are many other elements combined to mould a successful role model.

The Asian often say that Learning is the shortcut to the success. We also recognize that Knowledge an essential element of one's success. It is normally acquired through formal education, but it is not the only way to approach. The university can provide the professional knowledge to students, however, not all knowledge, skills; experience can transfer to students by teaching. Lost of lessons to learn much be participate in practical life, lost of skills acquired while you work, many experiences can be found in mistakes. That why the one only gain knowledge in universities is called knowledgeable while the one acquired knowledge, skills and experiences is called wisdom.
Success is not easy; we need many elements to achieve it. Fortunately, in ad***ion to innate factor, we can master lost of abilities and characters by training and learning such as determination, confidence, patience, optimism,…From the reality we can see that nowadays those with outstanding academic qualifications are not sought-after as much as before. Employers show interest in other qualities of an applicant, they need someone have abilities to change and to respond positively to any fluctuation, someone can adaptable and catch up with diversity.

There are some other factors, such as opportunities, that play a contributing role in one's success, but for simplicity's sake, one does not need to cite all these factors to uphold the assertion that a college degree is not the precon***ion to personal success. Practical experience, a mastery of different skills and personality suffice to illustrate the complex nature of personal achievement.
