Question: Do young people today make good use of their leisure time? Or they spend too much time watching television and playing video games, instead of taking part in more productive activities?
Nowadays, along with the rapid development of the society, remarkable changes have taken place in entertainment, which means young people seem to have many ways to relax in their leisure time such as watching television, playing video games, listening to music, going to the cinemas, bar, night-club and many other entertainment activities. There is a wonder if young people only do these activities in their spare time or they join in more productive activities.
According to a lot of investigation carried out in websites for young people, which raises question about activities they usually do in their spare time. The result is not surprising that the answers are always entertainment activities above or even they spend almost leisure time sleeping. All reliable evidences point to one saying, that is in fact most young people do not arrange their leisure time reasonably, they seem spend almost their leisure time in entertainment activities such as watching television and playing video games. On the other hand, there are other answers of young people for the investigation, which are that in leisure time they often read books, do healthy exercises, take part in sociable or voluntary organization. Actually, these activities seem to be more productive than entertainment activities. However, there is only very small percentage of young people having these answers.
The first reason for the truth above can be clearly seen is that the entertainment nowadays is really attractive and striking not only in quantity but also in quality. A more essential factor is that young people just want to relax in their spare time and entertainment activities are the most sensible choice for them. However, from what has been discussed above, the correct attitude is that young people should arrange their spare time reasonably. Instead of spending too much time in entertainment activities, young people could read books *****pport their knowledge, do exercises to have healthy life, take part in sociable or voluntary organization to gather experiences and to become good citizens for the society.

From my own perspective, young people are wasting a lot of time on non-useful activities like watching television and playing computer games.
Laptop or personal computer is also growing and becoming one of the basic needs that must be owned by young people. The wide acceptance of the video games actually is due to the introduction of new games almost every month. Most of the young people will spend their time playing video games in their house or in the cyber café in their neighborhood. Video games actually do not bring much of the positive effect to the young people. It actually made an individual become anti – social in the future. This is because some of the players are very addicted to the video game that they can play it for 24 hours non – stop. Some might plays at home and some might plays with their friend in the cyber café. This actually will limit the social development of the young people. Another bad habit of the young people nowadays is that they like to sleep when they have free times rather than doing other activities. They felt tired and will spend their whole weekend sleeping. This is just a wasting of time. Life is just like the burning candle. It should not be waste just for sleeping and useless activities.
As a conclusion, each individual has their own right and risk to choose the best way to full use of their leisure time. it is very dependent on the way they spent on each activities. Young people should bear in mind that all these activities is just used to filling up their leisure time and not as an important event that must be done. There is no harm playing video games and watching television if the individuals do not abuse these two technologies provided to them.

Or they spend too much time watching television and playing video games, instead of taking part in more productive activities?
Along with the development of society, more and more problems are brought to our attention, typical one of which is the way youth use their free time.
The fact that can be seen by every person is that nowadays young people use their spare time unreasonable because more and more new games online, action movie or entertainment programs establish every day so that young people are very easy fascinated, and the results is that they use too much time to playing games online, watching movies or chatting… They can sit in front of the screen without meals, do not go to school, even some young people do not return their home, they play overnight in internet shop, they eat and sleep right there and just comeback to home when they have not enough money or their parents find them. We can read or listen about the criminal of adolescence everywhere, i really believe that is results of playing games online too much and lack of parent’s care.
However, there are many young peoples who can control and use their free time very efficient. Besides study hard, there are many ways they can use to relax such as go to the gym, play football or take part in many volunteer clubs and they can do many things beneficial to societies such as blood donation or help poor children... I think this people also playing game or watching TV, nevertheless, the difference between us and young people i mentioned before is that they know exactly where is limited, so that they can arrange their leisure time reasonable and participate in more productive activities.
From what has been discussed, one can reach only this conclusion, parents and teacher have an important role in supervision the free time of children and encourage them to do more activities outside. That will make them stronger and confident in themself.

Or do they spend too much time watching TV and playing video games, instead of taking part in more productive activities?

Along with the development of society, more and more problems are brought to our attention, one of which is whether children and adolescents use their spare time efficient or not. To a certain extend I agree that some of young people today use effectively their leisure time in useful activities. However, I also think that others spend hours on watching television and playing video games.

It is true that many young people enjoy taking part in productive activities when they have leisure time. One of the reasons is that they find fun and happiness in community where they can get acquainted with a lot of people to expand their knowledge and relationship. This can make them become active and skillful people who will be successful and take part in developing their countries in the future. Furthermore, joining a club is such a good way to spend the free time and even helps people develop themselves positively. For example, children who early participate in sport clubs will grow up better in the adolescence than who do not according the recent researches of Chinese scientists.

On the other hand, a large proportion of the young today spend many hours watching TV and playing computer games as a way to relax when they do not know what to do in their spare time. There are various researches on how watching TV influences people’s health. “Watching TV for 1 hour per day increases 18% of mortality rate due to heart disease”, said David Dunstan from the Institute of Diabetes and Cardiovascular in Victoria, USA. He and his colleagues also concluded that working or playing games on a computer too long have as many negative effects to people’s health as their bodies do not burn fat and glucose. According to the survey of StrategyOne – the organization of researching global markets and opinions, 91% of Vietnamese children are playing games and watching TV for ceaseless hours. Therefore, this is a quite alarming situation forcing the governments to have suitable solution for this issue.

In conclusion, in recent years, although some young people have tended to relax by watching television and playing computer games as not good use of their spare time, others are likely to attend in productive activities. Despite of having the encouragement from parents and community, the number of the young spending hours on non-useful activities may increase significantly.

Em Khánh Linh - E53 nộp bài writing task 2 ah :D Do young people to day make good use of their leisure time? Or do they spend too much time watching television and playing video games, instead of taking part in more productive activities?

Along with the development of society, more and more problems are brought to our attention, one of which is that whether young people use their free time properly or not. From my own perspective, the adolescents are now wasting time watching television and playing games rather than participating in productive activities.

Nowadays, there are various ways to make good use of leisure time, which means using them to release stress and re-energize. Many adolescents decide to participate in productive activities in their free time, for example, playing sports, doing charity work or attending foreign language courses. These activities not only help them relax, feel more active and energetic, but also gain more knowledege, friends and exciting experiences.
On the other hand, a sizable percentage of young people still do not know how to use their free time suitably and spend too much time on watching television or playing video games. Take the United States as an example, about two - thirds of participants spent more than 10 hours per day in front of the television and computer, according to a recent survey published on Health online magazine. This may lead to countless negative effects, for instance, obesity, myopia, which are seriously harmful to people’s health.
Another reason why I advocate the opinion is the indifference to productive activities. Many youngsters said that playing sport or reading books is boring, useless and time consuming. Moreover, they added that these activities are not as interesting as playing games. As a result, these young people have a tendency to spend much time in front of those entertaining equipments, instead of taking part in useful activities.

From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that most of young people are spending their spare time on television and video games in a wrong way. In order to restrain this phenomenon, families and teachers should encourage the children to spend more time on productive activities to provide them healthy bodies as well as knowledge and life experiences. Mr. Ngọc E53 nộp bài writing task 2:

Along with the development of society, more and more problems are brought to our attention, one typical of which is how adolescent use their leisure time. To be more precise, there is suggestion saying that some people have useful plan for their free time while others claim that they waste much of time on non-productive. From my own perspective, they do not take advantages of their free time well.
On the one hand, thanks to the development of technology that has brought to adolescent many easier chances to relax with the high tech but non-productive ways such as watching TV or playing video games. They are not all mature enough to be aware of the disadvantages of these modern products without their parents’ supervision. Press and other media report daily on statistic of the rate obesity, heart diseases, etc… as the consequences of spending over 8 hours every day sitting in front of computer for games, internet, social network…In ad***ion to this, there are a lot of interesting, attractive films, game shows, lived sport matches…that force people, especially adolescent sit on the chair for a long time which make them become coach potato sooner or later.
On the other hand, there are many ways to spend our free time wisely and how to make the most of it. As we know, young people can take part in many productive activities such as playing sport, going camping, involving in instrument or foreign language speaking club as well as social or charity activities. These activities can lead young people to be confident and improve their soft skills so that their life quality is better with useful life style.
From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that it is better for our society to decide more wisely, we all know that bad impacts of television and video games on adolescent’s health and make them to have solitary activities which inhibit social development.

Deadline: 12pm, Wednesday, 12nd, Oct, 2011

The line graph compared the changes in proportion of the trend that households in the UK use the up-to-date devices in the period 1996 - 2003. It can be obviously seen that there had been more and more people in the UK use equipments such as home computer, CD player, mobile phone and internet access in their houses.
As shown in the graph, there were two main trends: using CD player, home computer and internet acess leapt gradually from time to time while using moblie phone rose and fell erratically. CD player and home computer seemed to have the same speed of increasing: CD player went up from nearly 60% in 1996 to just over 80% in 2003, these figures of home computer were 28% to more than 50%. Despite the late showing in 1998, internet acess had a great climb and reached a peak of some where in the region of 45% in 2003. Inspite of some fluctuation in the estimated percentages, the mobile phone still gained around 70% of all in 2003.
This ends my report here.

Nowadays, children virtually superfluously spend their after-school life on watching television, playing computer games and internet charting other than participating in a productive activities. Although there are valid argument to the contrary, I do strongly support the idea that watching appropriate amount of television programmes and actively joining in some useful activities are good for the development of everyone. The reasons for my position are as follows.

The first reason can be seen by every person is that watching too much television negatively affects people’s mental and physical development. According to several scientific studies, watching television for prolonged periods of time has a negative effect over the intellectual development of children and leads to deterioration of the mental capacity in older people by causing both attention and memory problems in the long term. On the other hand, it also is risky for people’s health. One report showed that a person who watches an average of six hours of TV a day would live on average 4.8 years less than someone who watches none.

What is also worth noticing is that spend too much time playing video games leads to someone who has no work ethic. For instance, children who play more violent video games are more likely to have increased aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and decreased prosocial helping, according to a scientific study (Anderson & Bushman, 2001).

In order to resolve these above problems, it is essential to encourage people in doing productive activities which are helpful for themselves as well as community, such as being physically active, reading, doing homework, playing with friends, spending time with family and joining in social events. Limit the time to watch television or play computer games at home also is the good way to prevent people from diseases and bad behaviour. One study recommended that parents should limit screen time to no more than two hours per day includes television, videos/DVDs, and video games.

From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that this is clearly a problem of spending too much time watching television and playing video games. People should pay more attention to a range of productive activities and adjust time for watching in order to have good use of their leisure time.
