TOPIC 4: SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT CULTURE WILL BE RUINED IF IT IS USED TO EARN TOURISM REVENUE, BUT OTHERS CONSIDER THAT TOURISM IS THE ONLY WAY OF PROTECTING A CULTURE. DISCUSS BOTH SIDES AND GIVE YOUR OWN OPINION.
Along with the rapid development of society, people’s demand for relaxing is higher and higher. Therefore, it is no doubt that tourism is one of the fastest industries nowadays. There is no denying that everything has more than one face and tourism is no exception. On the one hand, tourism is susposed to raise local revenue. On the other hand, it has sparked controversies whether it will ruin or protect a culture. This essay will discuss about effects of tourism.
The first conspicious point is that people are attracted to go somewhere by local features, for instance: landscape, foods, inhabitants…Hence, it is not susprised that both of local goverments and travel agencies popularise indigious cultures to the world. Thanks to the development of media, it is easier to introduce any local cultures than before ever, therefore , there are many tourists fascinated about their history, their interesting characteristics. To illustrate, Thailand involved religion, visitors come here to view luxury pagodas, enjoy religious atmosphere. As a result, tourism supports wordwide to preserve cultures. The two issues interact each other. Culture is the important factor to grow tourism industries then money has been subsequently directed toward cultural protection.
On the other hand, there are also some problems along with tourism. Tourists from everywhere always want to memorise places where they come. Then some of them leave their signs on statues, trees, buildings and so on. This ruins local background. Plus, some unique nature of a culture is assimilated to entertain tourists. For this reason, visitors are encouraged to pay little attention to tra***ional culture. Something else we shoud mention is that owning to a lot of visitors’ demand, many fakes are prodived as souvenirs, for example: specialities, costumes, so forth. This impacts on thoughts about cultures.
From what has been discussed above, you must agree with me that tourism has not only possitive aspects both also negative ones. This important thing is we should amplify its good influences and limit another sides. If we can not do any thing, it has put the integrity of a culture at risk.

There has been an increase in multinational investments and scientifically advanced technology within these countries. In cannot be denied that globalization contributes significant positive effects to people’s lives. However, rapid globalization is causing numerous adverse impact on poverty gap and natural resources.
Firstly, a remarkable negative effect of globalization spread is poverty gap. A global economy free trade between countries has been strengthened and many multinationals are built up in developing countries. As a result, opportunities for employment are created and a vast number of skillful workers has been created. They also become richer with higher salary. In contrast, the pressure of competition among these big companies leads to numerous employees who cannot follow the latest technological requirements in local companies to become jobless and poorer. As a consequence, a economic gap between the rich and the poor is likely to be increased.
Secondly, globalization causes the loss of natural resources in developing countries. Globalisation encourages more international enterprises to widen their business. These multinationals improve the economies of these countries and provide capital that people need to their economic growth. Therefore, some people claim that as a result of these investment, a large area of farmlands has to be converted into factories, industrial parks and buildings. This leads to a decrease in land resources. In ad***ion, the cranes, bulldozers and other labour-saving machinery are replacing many construction workers. For example, in Latin America, bigger farms are using expensive imported machinery to increase production, and, as a result of this, human resource such as labour are fewer and fewer.
Inconclusion, the increase of a poverty gap and the loss of natural resources in developing countries are likely to be caused by globalization. The transfer of latest technology from multinationals and the existence of big corporations cause the rise of an economic gap between the rich and the poor and natural resource loss. The important problem is that governments should be aware of a negative aspects of globalization and make appropriate policies to control this expansion.

Along with the rapid development of society, the life con***ions are higher and higher, so people travels from one country to another is very popular. Therefore, there is a little room for doubt that tourism is on of the fastest-growing industries in the world. However, some people are concerned that it will increase tension between people from different countries. From my own perspective, this viewpoint is really flawed.
The first reason that can be seen by every person is that both visitors and locals are economically motivated. International travels opens up the opportunities development for business through out the world. According to some statistics of vnexpress.net, the most famous website in VietNam, tourism contribute 4,5% to GDP of VietNam and 5% to GDP of ThaiLand in annual. So, that is reason why government of every countries are always encourage locals in attract the tourism not only in country but also the foreign visitors.
Although differences in social background, cultural values and religious belief might make the discrepancy of the foreigners and local inhabitants on some issues indelible, however unarguably that tourism is the best way for cultural preservation and promotion the locals cultural. When choosing destination, tourist oftens focus on locals characteristic and fascinated by different features… So, it might be the best chance for some customs or taboo of the locals that is on the verge of extinction may be revival and promote all over the world by the visitors. The locals should show their hospitality to visitors and there is no surprise that after the travel, the tourism will recommend their friends or family to choose this destination when they have intend to go somewhere.
Undeniably that there are some conflict between the locals and visitors when they first arrive because the visitor lack of knowledge about the local cultural and conventions. However, it should be noted that most offense is accidental rather than intentional. Over time, with better mutual understanding, this situation will definitely improve so that there is no reason to worry about international travels.
From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that there are many advantages of international travel, so the government and the local should take an opportunities to promote their cultural all over the world.

TOPIC 6: THE ADVANTAGES OF THE SPREAD OF ENGLISH AS A GLOBAL LANGUAGE WILL CONTINUE TO OUTWEIGH ITS DISADVANTAGES. TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?

In these years, there is a growing recognition that English is well on its way to becoming the dominant global language. There is no denying that everything has more than one face and the impact of this trend is no exception, so it is a subject of intense debate. From my own perspective, advantages of a dominant global language will continue to outweigh its disadvantages. The rise of a global language is a facilitator of cross-cultural communication and the communication between people with different language backgrounds. In different areas of global communication, such as science and news, recognising a common language removes communication barriers and increases convenience. On many formal occasions, English, as a working language, boosts efficiency and avoids misunderstanding. Futhermore, It is the language of technology. In fact, You can make the best use of internet if you know English as many websites are written in English. In ad***ion to this, knowledge of English makes travel easier. On the other hand, English is easier to learn than any other language. Unlike Chinese, for example, English has only 26 alphabets which are combined to make words and sentences. It is easy even for non-native speakers to read written English. In ad***ion, a number of English words have been borrowed from many other languages, and many English words have been adopted by many languages and are used as part of their own languages. Therefore, many people in different countries already know some of the English. So, it could be the easiest language to learn. One might argue that ,as every garden has weeds, there would be some disadvantages also. The rise of a global language would endanger other languages, in a belief that; an increasing number of people have turned to English as their first language. This viewpoint is flawed. The spread of global English has little, if any, influence on non-English-speakers' language proficiency. People might be motivated to learn English as a foreign language but do not necessarily drop their native language because learning beginner or intermediate level English is sufficient for daily communication. The dominance of English as a global language is, therefore, not a cause of the loss of language diversity. Its negative effect is reflected mainly in cultural imperialism. As international media recognises English as its root language, most of the broadcasted information is related to the lifestyle, norms and beliefs of English-speaking countries. It might over time, local languages would die out and with that, local cultures would die out because language and culture are inter-related.<FONT face=[/IMG]From what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that, there are more advantages than disadvantages of English as a global language. It connects people who previously spoke different languages and enables them to exchange ideas, although it might lead to the loss of cultural diversity.
