Topic 31: It is more important for a building to serve its purposes than to look beautiful. Architects do not need to worry about whether it is a real work of art. Do you agree or disagree?

However this development also makes a problem which should be on debate is that whether the purposes of a building ought to be placed above its aesthetical values. In my opinion these two qualities are mutual beneficial.
In modern construction industry , aesthetical considerations are no longer concerned much as they were in the past but in fact they are one of the most important factors to make a perfectly architectural building. It is a truth, a perfect building is the building which is not serve the purpose of the users but also contains the aesthetical factor thereby the building make it more comfortable for the user: it likes a meal which will be more delicious if it is displayed nicely.
Furthermore some types of buildings beside normally using purpose of themselves they are also have the ability to attract people by their beauty. Many building such as stadium , museum, theatre become the symbols of a city event a country by their either unique or brilliant design ; the theatre in Sydney and Eiffel Tower in Paris are two of majority other buildings which illustrate for my viewpoint.
On the other hand, when being concerned with the aesthetic aspect of architecture people should consider economic factor. We should not spend too much the budget to please our eyes when the economic crisis and overpopulation are the most concerned problem. Therefore every construction should be estimated carefully to get the balance between their purpose and their beauty.
Based on the arguments outlined above, adding visual appeals to a building is consistent with the needs of a modern society however the cost of a building should be concerned.

Topic 36: Some people think that changing jobs periodically is good. What is your opinion?
In modern world, it comes as no surprise that employees tend to finding another employment opportunity after dedicated a long time for a company or an organization. I am supportive of the argument that changing jobs is necessary, especial for young people, because till someday, they will find a career that they really satisfy and want to attach all their remain working lives.
Obviously, there are many motivation for workers to leave current position and get more opportunities in labor market. Weak economics, rapidly changing technology and likelihood of downsizing are combining to account for why the length of tenure is shortened nowadays and few people now expect to stay on the same job throughout their working lives. It is understandable that income, insurance regime, working con***ions, bonus and other job benefits are the main elements an employees will normally look into when evaluating whether a job is desirable or not. Another important element contribute to the employee’s confidence when they are ready to give up the routine task is experience which always received high appreciation from employers. People are living in the fast-changing world so it is fair to say that job-changing is not really a risk, maybe that is the greatest decision once in a life time.
However, much has been discussed about the gains and losses of such a career move. Holding some advantages before entering into a new environment like experience, the working ability was confirmed…, nevertheless, there is no guarantee that they will give acceptance and support of new colleagues. It will take a period of time to accustom to new environment and asserting itself. Besides this, working in higher pressure, more responsible and work longer hours are what will inevitably happen when changing job. The more benefits they get, the more efforts they pay, therefore, right evaluate is very important.
As indicated above, job-changing is an inevitable result when the labor force still not satisfy demand of companies and organizations. Nowadays, the employees have more chances to get a job that is suitable with their ability and con***ions so they should improve their skills to get better job opportunities.

Along with the continuous changes of society, buildings, besides being simply used for sheltering human’s occupancy, have long been regarded as structures containing historic and artistic values. Discussion has centered on which is more vital between a building’s purposes and its aesthetic architecture. These two opinions are equally right and important, so this essay will elaborate on both sides of the argument.
From many years ago, buildings were constructed in order *****pport shelters for human living. Since the world has developed and evolved rapidly, buildings are not exception with a range of magnificent structures. Nowadays, in modern society, it is not surprising that there is an increasing number of residential, multi-storey buildings and skyscrapers, especially in the cities. Not being limited only by its simple purpose, a building now brings more benefits to satisfy people’s current demands. The mushroom growth of shopping malls, restaurants, cinemas and offices illustrates the point.
Besides major purposes shown above, a building’s architecture is also a prime element which is especially concerned in modern life. Undeniably, the appearance of every priorities is the first and sometimes the decisive feature appealing people, and so is buildings’. In terms of art, a building not only is a work of art created by architects’ inspiration, creativity and effort, but also displays its outstanding aesthetic structure to distinguish itself among the others. Moreover, in terms of history, a historic building is considered as part of a country’s heritage giving characters to the cities, as well as attracting worldwide tourists. Examples of these buildings are many, for instance, Thang Long Royal Citadel in Vietnam, The Great Wall in China, Egyptian Pyramids and so on.
The reasons cited above have justified that both of a building’s purposes and outer look are essential in developing society. Since the number of new buildings is flourishing day by day, people should pay more attention on using them and the maintenance, especially the precious values of old buildings.

Topic 32: Do you think a museum is to educate or entertain people?

Museums are places where important objects of cultural, historical and scientific value are preserved and shown to the public. This function makes them play an extremely important role in disseminating human civilization. It is a topic of debate whether the main purpose of museums is to only educate or do both educate as well as entertain.
Museums such as the British Museum, the Louver, and the National Palace Museum are regarded as a vital educational resource because they highlight the achievements that have been accomplished by all mankind throughout history. Visiting them is an eye-opening experience. One will definitely be shocked by what is on display and learn something that they did not know previously. Actually, the majority of those who visit museums expect to know more about museum pieces of art and antiquities or those reflecting the development of science and technology. Therefore, museums should focus on providing more authentic information to meet their expectations.
On the other hand, it is certainly right for museums to improve their management, service and environment to attract young people who obviously need to be encouraged to learn more about human cultural history. If museums focus only on education and do not make things interesting, then they will not be visited much and even their function of education will not be fulfilled.
Today‘s interactive museums are always crowded. This is because, people enjoy and learn at the same time. In the planetarium, one feels one is actually in space. This arouses curiosity to know more about the planets and satellites. However, museums should not overdo the entertainment and go astray—by which I mean museums should make it clear that they are not purely a source of entertainment, like a disco bar, cinema or amusement park.
*****m up, museums should try their best to educate people and this can be better done if they make learning fun especially for today‘s youth.

Working long hours has a negative effect on themselves, their families and the society, so working hours should be restricted. Do you agree or disagree?

Everyday life today is much more complicated than in the past. For many, work plays an important role in our life and gives them strong sense of personal fulfillments as well as creates ways of making a living. Therefore, people tend to overestimate how long they work as a sort of "badge of courage". But some recent studies suggest that working long hours has a negative effect on themselves, their families and also the society. Moreover, working hours should be limited. There are some following reasons.
To employee, working long hours has itself at least two problems. Although people all acknowledge that it is important to achieve a balance between work and play, they also try to be as successful in their work life as in their personal life. As a consequence, family occasions are as important as business meetings, personal relationships (with families particularly) and social lives as well as community activities disrupt. For instant, studies such as the Australian Work and Life Index show that one hundred and fifty years ago, Australian workers became the first in the world to secure an eight-hour working day but now many people say they want to work zero hours but they don't want zero income so that they are complaining of work interfering with their lifestyles. People become much more materialistic so that they set themselves goals such as bying a new car or house so that they put extra pressure on themselves and experience psychological disturbances. This trend also impact to the employment market and make fewer employment opportunities available. As a result, it negative influences to a country's economy.
To employers, in order to get maximum benefit from limited resources, they try to keep working as long hours as possible. Therefore, it lead to some problems. Firstly, working for long hours employees tend to be less productive and face to greater risks of sickness. In ad***ion, because of working pressure with lower quality, the revenue also reduce. In the long term, it has destructive effects and society must deal with the problem of low quality labour resource. It is time that employers think about re-scheduling, flexible working arrangements and job redesign to explore the frail potential of each employee.
In conclusion, everybody can see no reason why working long hours is acceptable. Working long hours has a negative effect not only on people but also on their families and the society. But what can we do to restrict this fact in modern life with higher standard of living? It depends on people’s awareness as well as the support of Government.

Topic 28: People in many countries do not wear their tra***ional costume. Some argue that they would forget their history and tra***ion. Do you agree or disagree?

Recently, the phenomenon has aroused wide concern. Some people are in alarm that their tra***ional costume is no longer used more often as before especially in young generation. It definitely leads to an obvious result that the culture of those countries will be forgotten and some day it will disappear.
Firstly, it could not be denied that each tra***ional costume is considered as a symbol of a country, a national property which must be preserved. In many cases it is an useful method to advertise for that country. As a result, people from all over the world who admire that costume will love to discover the culture, the sightseeing,….of that country and make it more well-known and develop. For example, Vietnam is a small country but “ao dai’’ – tra***ional costume of Vietnam is very famous with many foreign people. If nobody wear it, of course no one find it interesting and want to know about a foreign country which they have never known.
There is a fact that tra***ional costume is quintessence of the knowledge, the art, skills, and even the technology of ancients. It is a result after a long period of history and involve all the tra***ion, religion of a culture. It helps people imagine how the ancient life was and love their culture more. Thus it will remind people of their country whenever they see their tra***ional costume even if they are far from home.
In conclusion, people should wear their tra***ional costume. It may be not convenient for everyday wear but they should use it in special occasions to remind the next generation of their history and culture.
