Topic 25: Many people think that public libraries should only provide books and should not waste their money on expensive hi-tech media, such as software, DVDs or videos. Do you agree or disagree?

Books originally have been the main and only source that can be found in libraries for many years. However, this tendency is changing rapidly these years because of the appearance of modern information storages like e-books, DVDs or videos. Some people do not support this kind of change due to the high cost it requires, and it is believed that libraries should focus on increasing the availability of books instead. In my point of view, those people , somehow, are on the wrong tracks that make me oppose them.

As it can be seen, technology is developing with a super pace whenever we take a look at it. While the size of equipment is getting smaller, its capability is getting bigger in such an incredible way. Instead of a huge book-shelf with about 250 books on it, people nowadays can save the space of it by storing those books' content in just 1 or 2 DVDs. In particular, an one-hour-length video can give us as much information as 2 hour of reading a thick book with the same idea. Also, students do not need to spend hours in libraries to study any more, because they simply can copy all the documents from the vast resource of e-books to their laptops and use it later.

Another benefit comes from advanced libraries is that with e-libraries, users can access to find necessary information everywhere from over the world via internet. This is the vital weakness of libraries which provides books only. For instances, it is easier to search for some books via internet immediately, rather than to wait for them to be delivered from a far away libraries, which it probably takes few weeks to reach you. Similarly, the worldwide communication gives people many opportunities to seek for rare books from isolated area in order that the meaning of sharing of libraries is fully achieved.

Last but not least, books' conservation is really a challenge for librarians. In some places, books cannot be well protected from being ruined because of the weather, especially in humid climate. The wet atmosphere and unstable temperature provide a big chance for bugs to grow quickly, one of them is the most danger species to books - bookworms. In ad***ion, the bigger the library is the heavier the librarians' responsibilities are. Because of the huge amount of books, big libraries require many people to manage effectively, whereas only one person can hold in his hand the whole enormous document,books, DVDs and videos of an e-library.

As suggested above, books themselves are already good, but modern equipment are way better. Providing both books and new hi-tech media equally should the main aim in each library. Likewise, it is always the best for libraries to contain everything

Topic 14: People should keep all the money they earn and should not pay taxes to the state. Do you agree or disagree?

A country is really strongly or not it depend on its budget. The role of taxation is providing funds necessary for carrying out a variety of functions in every countries on the world. However, it is supposed that, the government should not impose tax on citizens. In my opinion, tax revenue is essential to a country. Bellow there are some of its main points.

First of all, tax is in fact a relief to taxpayers and another people, for instance, by providing a safeguard against unemployment and a solution to other problems about infrastructure. For example, tax is used to building new road and bridges to develop transport system. In ad***ion, the government’s budget support to people who lose their earning capabilities of injuries, diseases and disabilities.

Finally, tax is also important to provide for fund to prevent the national from the other enemies. Protecting national security as well as protecting the freedom and happiness for the people, the government needs money to equip modern weapons for the army. So, there is no point in denying that tax is the principal source of finance that sustains many of the benefits offered by the welfare system of a country.

From what has been discussed above are the benefits brought by taxation, all being essential to a country. It is clear that, taxpayers are essential in order to develop a state of civilization and wealth.

Topic 8: Millions of dollars are spent on space research every year. Some people argue that the money should be spent on improving living standards on Earth. Do you agree or disagree?

Every year, many countries spend millions and millions of dollars on space programs. But many people believe that With a limited budget and a huge amount of debts, governments could do much better improving the living standard of the people, rather than wasting it for something that don't really necessary. To some extent this is correct. In developing countries where the people are still poor, spending on researches are quite unnecessary. But if we take a broader view, space projects are necessary investments for the future.
At the moment, many people won't know what it is like when there was no satellite television, satellite phone, microcomputers or GPS systems. They are all the fruits of space projects. We have those things because our fathers had spent money on space science. And their achievements changes the World. Space researches are an essential part of science, and if we want to continue to improve for the future, spending on space projects is necessary.
Meanwhile, our World is suffering from pollution, vanishing of natural resources, and power shortage. This is caused from the overused of nonrenewable resources, especially fossil fuel. Researches about spaceflights and space energy can help us with our crisis. The results of these researches can help us independent from fossil fuel, reduce pollution and let to the finding of more resources outside our planet to replace our vanishing resources. This will improve the environment and therefore, let to a better life for people on Earth.
Sometime, in the future, our knowledge from space science can help us to solve the ultimate questions: who are we? why are we here? are we alone? What before the big bang? What lies ahead waiting for us? This findings will help us to define ourselves, make us more responsible to the environment and the universe, and maybe, let to the contact with extraterrestrial life forms.
The World as we know it is based on scientific innovations, and many improvements we have today are the fruits of space researches. Satellites, rockets, and many more are all products of space projects. But space researches also help us to find the solution for our problems about environments, and to the survivability of our race. Researches will also help us on our quest of knowledge. So, continue spending on space researches are a way of improving our life on Earth for the future.
