According to all what you said above, you kept think that the Longman dictionary of Contemporary English is only British English, right? I just wanna say and affarm that this dictionary is about both AmE and BrE.

The fact is that all the examples of the dic are spoken by a British native, not an American one. Be careful that Ive not mentioned pronunciation of a single word. And check out some sound of single words in the dic then you may find the mentioned rule useful.
