    M15, M19 and M21 Anti-Tank (AT) Mines
    DESCRIPTION:
The M15 AT Mine is 13-1/8 inches in diameter, 4-7/8 inches high, and weighs 30 pounds with 22 pounds of high explosives. The mine is a track-breaker and is activated by 350 pounds of pressure.
The M19 AT mine is housed in a square, plastic case and holds 9.45 kilograms of Composition B (HE charge). It consists of an M606 integral pressure fuse and two secondary fuse wells--one in the side and one in the bottom. The fuse body contains a pressure plate, a Belleville spring, a setting knob, a step plate, a firing-pin assembly, and a detonator. The mine is activated by 400 pounds of pressure and is a track breaker. When the M19 is employed, it is difficult to detect because of its plastic construction.
The M21 AT Mine is 9 inches in diameter and 4-1/2 inches high. It weighs a total of 17 pounds with 11 pounds of high explosives. The mine is activated by 4 pounds of pressure against a 21 inch long extension rod or, without rod, by 290 pounds of vertical pressure on top of the M607 fuse. It uses a Miznay-Schardin plate for direct-energy warhead a kill mechanism providing belly kill and track breaking capability. The M21 produces a kill against heavy tanks, unless the mine is activated under the track. It can be buried with a tilt rod, or it can be surface-laid with or without a tilt rod. If the M21 is surface-laid with a tilt rod, it must be staked to prevent it from being knocked over and causing the warhead to be directed away from the target. The M21 is not compatible with any mechanical mine-dispensing system.
STATUS: The M15, M19 and M21 AT mines were last procured in FY52, FY58 and FY62 respectively. The case, fuse well and the explosive charge of the M15 have deteriorated and a rehabilitation program is underway to upgrade the stockpile. No procurement actions are pending.
EMPLOYMENT CONCEPT: AT mines are employed in protective, tactical, point and interdiction minefields. They can be buried by hand or mechanically or can be surface-emplaced. Only the M15 AT mine can be emplaced with the M57 Anti-Tank Mine Dispensing System. An accurate record of the number of mines laid and their exact location is maintained. The responsibility for authorizing the employment of the mines is vested in the commander whose area is directly affected by the mines.
BASIS OF ISSUE: AT mines are Class V items of issue. Combat and Combat Support units may be authorized a basic load of AT mines contingent upon their mission. Combat Engineer units will draw from pre-stock points or Ammunition Transfer Points as needed for the development and execution of the obstacle plan.
TRAINING/PERSONNEL: Initial training is taught at all Combat and Combat Support Schools. Inert practice mines are used to teach the required skills of emplacing, recognizing and removing mines. Soldiers maintain minelaying proficiency through unit training, utilizing Soldier''s Manual standards.

    MDH-10 (mìn định hướng 10)
Directional fragmentation mine, steel casing, Vietnam
    [IMG]

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE MINE
The MDH 10 is a copy of the Russian MON-100 steel directional fragmentation mine. It consists of a circular dished plate with segmented steel rod and fragments in its con**** face. The detonator well is located centrally as a hole that goes through the hole mine body. This makes it possible to fuze the mine from both sides. The well is also used to aim the mine by sighting through the hole. The mine is equipped with a metal half-circle band which is screwed onto two bolts on the sides of the mine body with two wing nuts. The mine is laid by driving an iron stake into the ground, post, tree or other objects. The iron stake is attached to the half-circle band. The MDH 10 is often provided with an adjustable frame which can be placed on various types of surface. A metal carrying handle is attached to the upper side of the mine body. The fragments in the con**** front of the mine, are lethal to a maximum range of 100 m, which range they cover an arc of approx. 10 degrees. The MDH 10 can be command detonated or initiated by use of trip wire. A similar Cambodian version of this mine, named KN 10, has welded seams and the fuze well is not running through the hole mine body as it is on the MDH-10. It has a circular projection located centrally on the convex side of the mine and is equipped with a metal wire instead of the metal band on the MDH 10.

    METHOD OF OPERATION
Detonation, as for each fuze. The detonator in the detonator well initiates the main charge projecting the fragments.
    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
    Height 220 mm (with fuze)
    Diameter 80mm
    Mine weight 5,0 kg
    Explosive weight 2,0 kg TNT
Casing material and colour Steel, olive green
Fuze type MUV-2,3,4, VPF, other fuze types.
    Sensitivity As for each fuze
    Detectability Yes
    Anti handling No
    NEUTRALISING
Both ends of the tripwire must be traced to check for other connected release mechanism set-ups. If the tripwire is identified as a single wire, cut the wire 15 cm from the fuze and tie it around the fuze to secure the pin. If a VFP is fitted, insert the safety pin first. If the mine is prepared for electrical detonation, identify and deal with the initiation system and cut the cable if needed.
    DISARMING
Neutralise the mine. Unscrew and remove the fuze from the well. Unscrew the detonator from the fuze.
    REMARKS
Directional mines are generally deployed in groups, exercise extreme caution and make a remote reconnaissance of the area before approaching.

    Description
The M14 is a small plastic-bodied blast mine. In ad***ion to the safety clip which must be removed before employment, the mine has a second safety feature. The pressure plate must be rotated from the safe position to the armed position or the plate cannot apply pressure to the belleville spring. The integral belleville spring fuze and the safety features are contained in the upper portion of the mine. The lower portion contains 29 grams of tetryl. The only metal in the mine is the steel striker tip and the detonator, making the mine very difficult to detect. Direct copies are produced in India (M-14) and Vietnam (MN-79), and a similare mine is also produced by Vietnam (MD 82B).
