Information for students commencing study in 2014.

New Zealand ASEAN Scholars Awards

The New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards are part of the New Zealand’s official development assistance to the ASEAN region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, through the New Zealand Aid Programme, delivers this scholarship scheme.

New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards empower future leaders with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to make key contributions to economic, social and political development within ASEAN nations. 178 New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards are allocated for eligible students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam, to undertake postgraduate study at a tertiary institution in New Zealand.

Type and Number of Scholarships

New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards are for full-time postgraduate level study, i.e. Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters degrees or Doctorates (PhD) in New Zealand.

An indicative allocation of 30 scholarships is available for Vietnamese nationals who wish to obtain a postgraduate degree in New Zealand commencing 2014.

Successful applicants are entitled to return air travel, full tuition fees, establishment allowance, a living allowance to cover day to day costs, medical and travel insurance and reunion airfare for unaccompanied awardees.

English Language Requirements

New Zealand tertiary education institutions set their own admission requirements for English
language proficiency. All applicants should check the IELTS1 or TOEFL2 scores required for admission to the New Zealand education institution that they have applied to.

Fields of Study

Applicants from all fields are encouraged to apply. The suggested disciplines are as follows:

Agriculture and Rural Development - Animal Health, Plant Health, Phytosanitary, Agricultural and Horticultural Science, Food Safety and Food Quality, Post Harvest Technologies, Biotechnology, Biosecurity, Vegetables Production, Livestock, Aquaculture, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics;
Environment - Environmental Studies, Environmental Planning and Management, Environmental Economics, Natural Resources Management, Climate Change Adaptation, Land Administration, Land Planning & Development, Water Resources, Renewable Energy, Oceanography, Seismic/earthquake Engineering, Emergency Management, Hazard Assessment and Management;
Education - Early Childhood Education and Development, Education Leadership and Management, Education Policy, Testing and Evaluation, TESOL, Vocational Education;
Trade and Business Development - Trade Facilitation, International Trade, Trade Policy, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) Development, Private Sector Management, Development Economics, Applied Economics, Value Chain, Accountancy, Finance, Banking, Commerce, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Supply Chain Management;
Tourism - Tourism Management, Tourism Planning, Sustainable Tourism, Ecotourism;
Governance - Public Management, Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, Justice, Legaland Judicial Reform;
Cross-cutting Disciplines - Human Rights, Gender, Women Studies.

Eligibility

Candidates from public institutions, civil society, NGOs and the private sector throughout Vietnam
are all eligible to apply.

To be eligible for a New Zealand ASEAN Scholar award, an applicant must:

be a citizen of Viet Nam;
not have citizenship or permanent residence status of New Zealand, Australia or another developed country;
not be married or engaged to be married to a person who holds, or who is eligible to hold, citizenship or permanent residence status of New Zealand, Australia or another developed country;
hold a recognised Bachelors degree for Masters candidates and Masters degree for PhD candidates;
have an uncon***ional offer of place from a tertiary institution in New Zealand;
be under 40 years of age at the time of application for Masters and under 45 years of age at the time of application for PhD;
have a minimum of two years work experience (candidates under 25 years of age without work experience are eligible to apply if academic excellence and/or future leadership potential are demonstrated).
A developed country is defined as a country not included on the OECD’s Development Assistance
Committee’s list of aid recipients.

Applicants who already hold a Masters degree are eligible to apply for a Masters degree under the
New Zealand ASEAN Scholar award as long as they could clearly demonstrate the developmental
relevance and applicability of their proposed study programme to the development of Vietnam.

Selection Criteria

Strong academic merit;
Demonstrated professional and personal leadership attributes;
Demonstrated developmental benefits to Vietnam;
Consideration of balance between public, private and civil society organizations/NGOs;
Consideration of geographical spread and fit with the objectives of the Vietnam-New Zealand
bilateral development cooperation programme.
Application and Selection Process

The New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards applicants must identify the desired course and
seek an offer of place from the institution in New Zealand.

The New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards applicants submit two applications completed in English (one original and one copy), including a copy of the letter of offer from a tertiary institution in New Zealand, directly to the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi. PhD students must also include evidence of correspondence with a potential supervisor. Applicants are encouraged to download the application form at www.nzembassy.com/viet-nam. Application forms are also available from the New Zealand Embassy in Ha Noi.

Applications are assessed and a short list is drawn up for consideration by a Selection Committee in Vietnam. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview; The list of recommended candidates is submitted to a Moderation Committee for review and approval.

Timeframes

01 July 2013 - Deadline for application to the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi
Jul-Aug 2013 - Formal screening, short listing and selection by a Selection Committee in Hanoi
Sept 2013 - Review and approval by Moderation Committee
Oct-Nov 2013 - Final results and Letters of Scholarship Offer
Nov - Dec 2013 - Visa application
Jan-Feb 2014 - Travel arrangements, Pre-departure briefing and Departure for New Zealand

Hoàn toàn đồng ý với pexiu. Giờ này năm trước mình cũng đang lơ nga lơ ngơ không biết thủ tục như thế nào, cuộc sống và điều kiện học tập ở các trường NZ ra sao... Chỉ may hơn pexiu là không bị mất tiền oan cho mấy agency vớ vẩn.

Anh chị cho em hỏi.

Một là, trong offer trường Massey gửi cho em, trường bảo là Kỳ học tháng 2/2014 đã hết chỗ nên trường chuyển em sang kỳ học tháng 7/2014. Như vậy, em có eligible không ạ? Em sợ tháng 7 người ta không cho. Thế nên em đã xin offer thêm VIC và đang đợi admission.

Hai là, reference letters có cần phải bỏ trong phong bì và ký niêm phong lại không ạ? Em thấy người ta không yêu cầu, nhưng cũng hơi lo

Anh chị có biết thì giúp em với. Em cám ơn lắm lắm

e cũng muốn hỏi letter of recommendation có cần phải cho vào phong bì thôi hay cứ cho vào application backage của mình là đc. Mà phong bì thì lại phải của trg ĐH riêng, của công ty riêng. Công ty mà ko có mẫu phong bì thì cũng chịu.

Nhất thiết phải dùng phong bì theo mẫu của trường hoặc công ty, chứ không được dùng phong bì bình thường mua ngoài hả bạn?

Để trả lời câu "nhất thiết" thì chắc phải hỏi ĐSQ rùi.

Theo kinh nghiệm của mình, cứ làm tốt nhất đến mức có thể: LOR in trên giấy tiêu đề (letter head của Cty - nếu cty ko có mẫu giấy này thì mình chế ra, rồi in màu) xin chữ ký, đóng dấu, cho vào phong bì, nhờ văn thư đóng dấu niêm phong.

Một bạn trên kia hỏi: Nếu trường Massey từ chối kỳ học 2/2014. Bạn nên apply trường khác, vì học bổng là từ đầu năm học 2014. Ở NZ có 8 trường University bạn có thể lựa chọn:
- Uni of Auckland: No. 1 về nhiều phương diện
- Các trường khác: phân bố rải rác trên toàn quốc:
+ Muốn ngắm cảnh đẹp, nhưng hơi buồn: thì tới đảo Nam
+ Muốn ở nơi có cộng đồng người Việt đông đảo và ở Thủ đô: thì tới Wellington
+ Muốn nơi đông người hơn và khí hậu ấm áp hơn: lui lên đảo bắc (Uni of Auckland, AUT, Unitech, Waikato, Massey...)
+ Muốn chi phí sinh hoạt rẻ: lui ra các trường xa trung tâm một tí, sẽ đỡ tốn kém khá nhiều.

Thuylinh ơi, về câu hỏi số 1 của em, theo chị nghĩ thì e nên xin thêm offer của trường khác. Lí do là, nếu e đọc kĩ trong hướng dẫn HB, e sẽ thấy họ timeframe của chtr là: sinh viên sẽ depart to NZ in Jan-Feb 2014. Theo chị thấy thì năm 2013 vừa rồi bọn chị đi học, k có ai bắt đầu học vào kì học thứ 2 (tức là July) cả.
Do đó, chị nghĩ tốt nhất e nên đầu tiên là email hoặc gọi điện cho bên ĐSQ để hỏi cho chắc chắn và 2 là chuẩn bị offer cho trường khác.

Câu hỏi thứ 2 về reference letters, chị strongly recommend là e bỏ phong bì và niêm phong lại, vì theo chị, *theo chị thôi nhé), nó thể hiện với ng nhận hồ sơ là e biết code of conduct đối với thư giới thiệu ở dạng hard copy. Năm chị apply thầy giáo chị tự tay niêm phong và kí ngang phong bì cho chị

Cũng vì thấy timeframe ghi depart Jan-Feb 2014 nên em mới lo. Em email ĐSQ rồi nhưng chưa thấy trả lời chị nà. Em cũng đã gửi hồ sơ xin offer trường VIC và giờ đang đợi Trong application form, em thấy có 2 lựa chọn cho proposed study program, mai mốt nếu được 2 offers, em đính kèm cả 2 luôn chị hí?

Uhm, nói chung là các anh chị ý bận lắm, nên sẽ bị delayed đấy. Nên nếu k đợi đc thì gọi, mà thấy cũng k cần gọi thì cứ go ahead như timeframe thôi, chị nghĩ thế.

Về offer thì khi nộp hồ sơ chị chỉ nộp có 1 offer thôi nên chị k rõ trong trường hợp 2 offers thì như thế nào.

Nhưng mà quan trọng là, trong bài essay e phải nộp cho bên HB thì e phải trả lời câu hỏi, chtr học e chọn giúp ích gì cho em, và giúp ích gì cho VN sau này. Nếu như chtr Master mà e đăng kí ở cả 2 trường là giống nhau (hoàn toàn or na ná như nhau) thì ok, còn nếu như chtr master ở 2 trg mà khác biệt quá lớn, thì chị nghĩ là e phải cân nhắc chọn 1. Nếu k thì sẽ gây ra khó hiểu cho ng nhận hồ sơ, khi đọc bài essay của e. Ngta sẽ k hiểu e đang trả lời câu hỏi trên cho chtr nào. Hiểu ý chị k?
