Pires slams Makelele and Desailly
Robert Pires has slammed disgraced Chelsea stars Marcel Desailly and Claude Makelele. Pires believes they have damaged the image of football. Makelele seemed to feign injury to get Andreas Zikos sent off against Monaco last week. And Desailly elbowed Fernando Morientes.
Pires said: "I''''ve heard players say this kind of thing is all part of the game, but I don''''t agree. I am sorry to see the players showing these two bad images and surprised they should act in this way. It is not good for football."
"It''''s regrettable they should do it against a French team in France. You will have to ask people there how they see the players now. They have seen a different facet of the players than they had before."
Pires sided with Desailly in the race scandal that has erupted around TVs Ron Atkinson. He said: "It is deplorable that anyone should use words like that about a player. I hope Marcel will accept his apology."

Pires talks about Reyes settlement
Robert Pires believes that the faith that Arsenal supporters have in their manager''s judgment played a decisive part in persuading supporters to keep faith with new players in difficult times. "It is hard when you come to England. The football is different and the language is different," Pires said.
But there were enough Spanish speakers around - Pires among them - to ease Reyes into the club. "The fans even have a song for him", said Pires, referring to the ''Jose Antonio'' chant that greets his on-field successes.
