Pires named third in player poll

The quartet who received the most votes from registered members of the Club''s official website will be revealed in reverse order and each will get a week of celebration for their achievements.
Last week, we announced Patrick Vieira in fourth place. This week we are examining the contribution of the third place player and, after polling five per cent of the vote, that is... Robert Pires.
The former Marsielle man received just a few more votes than his French international team-mate.
Statistics never tell the full tale but, for a midfielder who takes neither penalties nor free-kicks, 19 goals in 46 starts is something worth noting. While centre forward Thierry Henry rarely scores a tap-in, Pires seems to picking up a poacher''s instincts as he gets older.
On Friday, Arsenal Plus subscribers will be able to see all of Pires'' Premiership and Champions League goals. Notice how many were the product of a perfectly-timed run into the box. Whenever the ball ran loose it was Pires who was on hand to hammer it home. Of course there was still the odd screamer - the long-range, right-foot winner against Liverpool was a case in point. And Pires is more than goals. A tally of nine assists in the Premiership made him Arsenal''s top creator.

ALIADIERE ATTRACTING ATTENTION

Jeremie Aliadiere is keen to obtain more first team football next season, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems reluctant to allow the young striker to leave Highbury on a loan basis.
The French forward is desperate for regular action, according to respected sports newspaper L''Equipe, and would not be short of options if Wenger decided to release him on a temporary basis.
Saint Etienne are keen to recruit the youngster as part of their special relationship with the Premiership champions.
However, bigger clubs are also circling around the 21-year-old, with Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund all understood to be admirers of his talents.
