Hiện giờ người ta đã chuyển sang dùng sonar hầu hết rồi, cakewalk của bạn giờ đã lạc hậu (nếu đã sử dụng rành về nó thì vẫn tốt). Sonar hiện nay đã support việc dùng các nhạc cụ ảo (VSTi), đây là một xu hướng chung của các phòng thu hiện nay. Dùng nhạc cụ ảo bạn có một công cụ hết sức mạnh mẽ và tiện lợi hơn so với dùng phần cứng. Để xài được VSTi máy bạn nên có cấu hình như sau : bộ xử lý khoảng 3 GH, Ram nên có 2 GB, ổ cứng càng lớn càng tốt (một số phần mềm VSTi có dung lượng cả chục GB là bình thường). Nếu bạn đọc được tiếng Anh thì tài liệu "Sonar 5 power" là tương đối đầy đủ và chi tiết, tài liệu tiếng Việt về cakewalk tôi có rất thô sơ, tự tìm hiểu từ phần help của cakewalk còn đầy đủ hơn.
