Oranje aid helps Huntelaar to sparkle
    Uefa.com
International football helped Klaas Jan Huntelaar come through a tough spell at Real Madrid CF and he is hoping to "keep up the goalscoring tempo" as the Netherlands face two key FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

    Tunisian twist
If the 25-year-old''''s first five games following his January move to Real Madrid from AFC Ajax failed to produce a goal, Oranje coach Bert van Marwijk stuck by the striker and saw him come off the bench to score in the Netherlands'''' 1-1 February friendly draw with Tunisia. Since then, Huntelaar has been on fire, cementing a first-team place in Madrid with eight goals in six Liga matches.
    ''''Super''''
"After the Tunisia game I came back to Madrid feeling good," Huntelaar said. "Since then things have just got better. Before Tunisia I had spoken to Madrid coach Juande Ramos, who told me my time would come but he did not have any reason to change the team. It feels great now. That''''s what you hope for when you move, and when it works out this way, it is super."
    Sparkling form
Huntelaar''''s goals also helped Madrid reignite their Spanish title challenge as leaders FC Barcelona experienced a rare wobble at the end of last month. "We are playing for the championship," Huntelaar confirmed. "Things are going great for me and I hope to continue this scoring tempo." With luck, he could carry on his sparkling run in Oranje colours over the next week.
    Commanding lead
Already five points clear at the top of qualifying Group 9, the Dutch can take a substantial stride towards the 2010 World Cup finals by winning their home fixtures against Scotland on 28 March and FYR Macedonia on 1 April. "Beating Scotland would bring qualification ever closer, although it is not a certainty," the former SC Heerenveen man said.
    One up front
With Ruud van Nistelrooij on the long-term injured list, ''''El Cazador'''' (The Hunter) and Liverpool FC''''s Dirk Kuyt are competing for the striking role in Van Marwijk''''s 4-2-3-1 formation. "I want to play but it''''s up to the coach to decide," said Huntelaar, who has scored eleven times in 19 internationals. "I only hope he liked what he saw in the second half against Tunisia."
    Revitalising force
Meanwhile, the likes of Huntelaar''''s Madrid team-mate Rafael van der Vaart and Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg can only hope the forward''''s surge in form augurs well for their own careers. Both have found club football elusive of late, yet should Van Marwijk continue to put faith in them, they could be in for Huntelaar-style revivals of their own.

Frank Rijkaard favourite *****cceed Marco van Basten at Ajax
Frank Rijkaard is Ajax''s favoured candidate *****cceed Marco van Basten as the Amsterdam club look to install another former player before considering any move for the former England manager, Steve McClaren.
McClaren has been touted as a possible replacement for Van Basten at the Amsterdam Arena, having guided FC Twente into second place and the Champions League qualifying rounds at the expense of Ajax in his first season in the Netherlands.
Ajax officials, however, insist there has been no approach for the former Middlesbrough manager, who is only on a two-year contract at Twente, and are believed to want a former player or manager to follow Van Basten, who quit this week claiming he was unable to improve results at the club.
Co Adriaanse has been linked with a return to Ajax, but Rijkaard is believed to be the club''s preferred ?" and most ambitious ?" option. Rijkaard has been without a job since leaving Barcelona last summer and while several European heavyweights are open to his availability, Bayern Munich among them, his agent has not dismissed a return to his first professional club.
"Rijkaard will think about all serious offers, but it must be the right club under the right circumstances," said Perry Overeem, a representative of Van Basten. "He would like to start again but it is not that he needs to get a new job. It must be a sporting challenge in a competition that appeals to the imagination. All big European countries are interesting. Rijkaard is open-minded in this. The only thing he doesn''t want is to be a national team boss again."
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jol unveiled as new Ajax boss
    Source: Skysports.com
Dutch tactician Martin Jol has returned to his homeland to become the new head coach of Ajax.
The former Spurs boss has signed a three-year contract with the Dutch giants after impressing with his latest club Hamburg.
The 53-year-old led the Bundesliga outfit to the semi-finals of this season''s Uefa Cup, where they lost out on away goals to Werder Bremen.
He also secured a fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga - earning a Europa League spot for next season.
Jol replaces Marco van Basten, who resigned with one game of the Eredivisie season remaining after missing out on a UEFA Champions League berth.
As head coach, he will also be responsible for other football matters such as transfers, scouting and the youth development program of the club.
Ajax CEO Rik van den Boog said they acted "very carefully" in selecting Jol for the post.
    Qualities
He told the club''s official website: "Martin has all the qualities that the new coach of Ajax should have in our opinion. He is experienced and has gained that experience both in Holland and abroad.
"He has worked for big and not so big clubs and has shown he can get the maximum potential out of his players.
"He is furthermore a coach who has proven that he is willing to give talented young players a chance, which is of the utmost importance for us.
"As the club''s management we have not been working together in this structure for very long, but I am very happy with the way we collaborated to make this possible. It was an exciting and fascinating period, with an excellent result for Ajax.''''
    Fantastic club
Jol added the club have offered him "a great chance, with a long-term perspective" where he will have an "extended package of responsibilities."
"Ajax is a fantastic football club and I am really looking forward to getting started. I had a great time at HSV, it is a big club and Hamburg is a nice city to live in," he added.
"I have worked abroad the past years and now I get to return to Holland, I am looking forward to that too."

    Jol happy with Ajax contract
    28 May 2009
    [IMG]
Martin Jol signed his Ajax contract shortly after midday. The 53 year-old, who was born in Scheveningen, is looking forward with every confidence to 22 June, the first official working day for him and his squad. ,,The aim is development. Once that is going well, the results will follow automatically.â?Tâ?T
Conference room Voorland, at the heart of the Amsterdam ArenA, is buzzing. Martin Jol signs his new coaching contract flanked by the whole Ajax Board and in the presence of dozens of â?~spectatorsâ?T - including brother **** Jol. The first trophy that the coach is presented with is an attractive bouquet for Mrs Jol. â?oMy first impression of the club?â?Tâ?T Jol repeats the question a mere three hours after he arrived at the ArenA. â?oOf course I still have to get to know most of the people here but, as was the case at my previous clubs in the Netherlands, England and Germany, I have already met a lot of very nice people. This afternoon and in the days ahead I am also going to meet the Ajax players at the Toekomst (the Ajax youth training complex).â?Tâ?T
Jol has left Hamburger SV and is starting out on a new adventure at Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax (the clubâ?Ts full name). It is an exciting challenge. As a player and a coach he always had a good feeling about Ajax. â?oLong ago Ajax was almost unbeatable at the Meer stadium. That was something you knew beforehand,â? the 3-time international remembers from his playing days at FC Den Haag and FC Twente.
However, Jol has had his successes against Ajax. In any event, the memory of a sensational 1-2 victory with â?~hisâ?T RKC in the ArenA puts a smile on Jolâ?Ts face. The good feeling associated with Ajax has, in any case, remained and Jol summarises his Ajax feeling using a few concise words. â?oYou just have to see the shirt, the fans and the stadium. It doesnâ?Tt really get any better than this.â?
What is Jolâ?Ts main goal as Ajax head coach? â?oThe development of the players is the priority. Once that is going well, the results will follow automatically. As far as that is concerned I am looking forward to working with the players. It doesnâ?Tt matter how old they are, as long as they are good.â? As coach at HSV, Jol had the opportunity to study the Ajax players from close by. The UEFA Cup match was a memorable one. HSV suffered one of the seasonâ?Ts rare defeats thanks to a goal by Leonardo (0-1). â?oAjax were very impressive during that match,â? Jol stresses. â?oOne reason for this was that the team played in a tactically astute manner from the back. Thomas Vermaelen played at left back. Eyong Enoh and Luis Suarez also looked good. I am looking forward to working with all the players.â?
Jol has a clear football vision and philosophy in which concepts such as enthusiasm and passion are key. â?oBetween 70 and 80 percent of football is hard work. The other 20 to 30 percent is pleasure. Relaxation is also important. The main thing is to work with enthusiasm and passion.â?
Shortly after the contract was signed, Ajax CEO Rik van den Boog spoke of the prevailing feeling of satisfaction about the latest acquisition. "Martin is one of the best coaches in Europe with a huge amount of experience. He is someone who can get you the best results. We are all very happy with Martin, a coach with a vision and a great football brain.â?
Who exactly is going to be included in the Ajax 1 coaching staff next season is still unclear. Besides Martin Jol, Danny Blind is also going to be assigned a key role. Blind is going to assist Martin Jol with the implementation of the total football policy, both on and off the pitch. As Van den Boog explains, â?oJol is the big boss as far as football is concerned. Danny is there for the continuity and, for example, for the youth academy. Martin and Danny will have a say in how the other coaching positions are to be filled.â?

    Warm Welcome for Jol
    [IMG]
Ajax held their first training session of the new season on Monday. It gave the supporters the chance to give new boss Martin Jol a warm welcome in Amsterdam.
The first training session was mainly about recovering from all the tests the players had undergone in the morning. The team was cheered loudly when it took the training pitch on youth complex De Toekomst, where Ajax 1 will hold the majority of its practices during the week.
The players already present were Toby Alderweireld, Daley Blind, Mitchell Donald, Evander Sno, Dario Cvitanich, Oleguer, Ismaïl Aissati, Jan-Arie van der Heijden, Kennedy, Siem de Jong, Rob Wielaert, Javier Martina, Vurnon Anita, Darko Bodul, Gabri, Urby Emanuelson, Rasmus Lindgren, Jan Vertonghen and Kenneth Vermeer. Young Ajax players Sergio Padt and Christian Supusepa, A2-junior Marco Bizot and A1-player Marvin Zeegelaar also trained with the squad. The internationals report back on 29 June.
The many fans also cheered for new coach Martin Jol. The boss in return applauded the supporters and raised his fist to them as a sign of victory.
After the training, Jol gave his first press conference. He confessed that he was not quite sure how he would be received. ,,You never know, I am after all from The Haguê?, he said with a smile. ,,But it was great. There were more peoople than I had expected.?
During the first training sesssion, Jol had noticed some positive things. ,,Some of the young guys who come back from injuries, have surprised me today.?
Despite the level of the current squad, Jol still hopes to further strengthen his team. ,,I always want to win?, Jol said. ,,The first thing you need for that is good players. We are very busy to get them. I also hope that the players who were signed last season, can take another step upwards.?

    Holland v. England: The History
England will kick-off their new season on Wednesday night when they travel to Amsterdam to take on Holland in a friendly.

The match will give Fabio Capello his first chance to get back to work with his players before they round off their World Cup Qualifying campaign in the next two months.

Both teams have identical records in qualifying so far?"both boasting maximum points from their seven games played. This has been enough for Holland to secure their ticket to South Africa already and the Three Lions will most likely join them should they secure the three points in their next match against Croatia in September.

The match will be England?Ts fifth friendly against Holland since 2001 and will be the 18th meeting between the two nations overall.

The Three Lions currently hold the historical edge with five wins to Holland?Ts four. The last three matches have all ended in draws of which there have been eight altogether.

England have lost only one of the six matches they have previously played in Holland. The most recent meeting was in 2006 and ended 1-1 when Rafael van der Vaart struck a late goal five minutes from time to cancel out Wayne Rooney?Ts opener and secure a draw for Marco van Basten?Ts side.

The last victory by either side came in a friendly in 2001 at White Hart Lane when the Dutch prevailed by two goals to nil, aided by a magnificent strike by Mark van Bommel and a goal from Ruud van Nistelrooy.

England?Ts last victory over Holland came at Euro ?T96, which was also the most recent of five competitive meetings between the two nations.

The group stage match will live long in the memories of many England fans and saw the Three Lions thump the Dutch 4-1 on a famous evening at Wembley, Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham bagging two goals each as Terry Venables enjoyed his finest night as England manager.

However, this win stands as England?Ts sole success over the Dutch in their last ten meetings. In fact, you have to go back as far as 1982 for the previous English victory.

Further games of note between the two sides came during 1994 World Cup Qualifying. England threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Wembley and then lost their penultimate qualifier 2-0 in Rotterdam to goals from Ronald Koeman and Denis Bergkamp as their campaign ended in failure.

England fans will most likely recall the refereê?Ts decision not to send Koeman off in that match after he brought David Platt down when clean through on goal. Koeman received only a yellow card and five minutes later clipped in the opening goal from a direct freekick.

Holland?Ts most famous win against England came in 1988 at the European Championships when Marco van Basten scored a hat-trick (the first against England for almost 30 years) to knock Bobby Robson?Ts side out of the competition in the group stage. Holland would go on to win the tournament and van Basten finished as top scorer.

England?Ts biggest win over Holland was back in 1946 when they triumphed 8-2 in Huddersfield with Tommy Lawton netting four goals. This remains the only time Holland have conceded eight goals in a full international.

The Three Lions?T last victory on Dutch soil came forty years ago in 1969 when Colin Bell struck the only goal of the game for the then World Cup holders against a Dutch side containing Johann Cruyff at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.
