Trong Tiếng Anh, tiền tố in và un, v.v... có tác dụng phủ định từ gốc. Chẳng hạn insane (điên) là do chữ sane (sáng suốt) mà ra. correct và incorrect, possible và impossible, important và unimportant, v.v...
Tuy nhiên, có 1 số từ có vẻ như là từ phủ định được tạo ra từ 1 từ gốc có nghĩa khẳng định. Nếu cố tìm từ gốc thì như mò kim đáy bể, bởi lẽ không hề có từ đó trong tiếng Anh!
Ví dụ: từ trái nghĩa của inept (= không hợp, không thích hợp) không phải là ept --- từ này ko tồn tại trong tiếng Anh.

Trong Tiếng Anh nhiều khi điên đầu để tìm đúng 1 danh từ tập hợp cho 1 nhóm con vật nào đó.
Thí dụ:
Trong TV, ta nói "một đàn cá, một đàn chim, một đàn kiến." Quá dễ! Cái gì mà có nhóm thì cứ dùng chữ đàn, con gì mặc kệ.
Trong TA, ta nói "a school of fish, a flock of birds, a colony of ants." chứ không nói a flock of fish, v.v... Hic, 3 từ TA cho 1 từ tiếng Việt.
