    Paul McCartney sees Lonnie Donegan's live performance at
    Liverpool's Empire Theatre.

    1960
    The Beatles perform at the Kaiserkeller Club, Grosse Freiheit,
    Hamburg, West Germany.

    1961
    The Beatles perform at Aintree Institute, Aintree, Liverpool.
    After their performance they attend a party given by Sam Leach,
    promoter of the previous evening's "Operation Big Beat" at the
    Tower Ballroom.

    1962
    The Beatles perform at the Star-Club, Hamburg, West Germany.

    1963
    Release in Sweden of Beatles LP "With The Beatles" (Parlophone).

    1965
    The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios,
    London). The final recording session for the "Rubber Soul" album,
    The Beatles working for 13 hours straight. They need three new
    songs. The previously-recorded "Wait" is pulled off the shelf for
    one of the needed songs, and after a few overdubs it is ready to
    go. They overdub vocals onto the previous night's rhythm track of
    "I'm Looking Through You". Then they record, from start to finish,
    Paul's "You Won't See Me" and John's "Girl", the basic tracks for
    both songs being completed in two takes. "Rubber Soul" is
    completed, and finished copies of the album are in the shops by
    December 3 (December 6 in the US). "Rubber Soul" is hailed as a
    breakthrough album for The Beatles, their lyrics more introspective
    than ever before, the range of instruments employed greatly
    expanded, and new recording techniques having been developed and
    utilized effectively.

    US release of John Lennon/Yoko Ono LP "Unfinished Music No. 1 --
    Two Virgins" (Apple Tetragrammaton). 8 weeks on Billboard chart;
    highest position #124.

    Lee Parkin Starkey, Ringo and Maureen's daughter, is born at Queen
    Charlotte's Hospital in London.

    US release of Ringo Starr single "Only You (and You Alone)/Call Me"
    (Apple). 13 weeks on Billboard chart; highest position #6.

    UK release of Wings single "Mull of Kintyre/Girl's School"
    (Capitol).

    Release in Sweden of Beatles double compilation LP "Love Songs"
    (Parlophone).

    US re-release of John Lennon single "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
    [John, Yoko, others]/Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) [John]" (Geffen).

    The film "Imagine" is released on videocassette in the UK.

    1999
    The Recording Industry Association of America names The Beatles
    "Band of the Century". The Beatles have sold more than 106 million
    records in the United States alone, and they are the only band in
    history to earn 5 diamond albums (sales in excess of 10 million
    copies): "The Beatles", aka "The White Album", (17 million); "Sgt.
    Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (11 million); "Abbey Road" (11
    million); "The Beatles/1967-1970" (14 million); and "The
    Beatles/1962-1966" (13 million). The Beatles are also named as
    "Top Rock Group".
