    Quantitative Biology of Cell Homeostasis

Following an international evaluation the Science Faculty has decided *****pport a platform research programme in Quantitative Biology coordinated by the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology and involving also the Departments of Physics and Mathematics. Research emphasis is on cellular systems maintaining homeostasis during stress and aging using mainly yeast as a model system.

    Three PhD students

We expect that the successful candidates will by highly ambitious and talented students with a genuine interest in scientific research.

PhD student 1 and 2: Molecular Biologists. The projects aim a quantitative understanding of signal transduction and/or metabolic pathways in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The interdisciplinary projects will make use of tools and methods of functional genomics, genetics and bioimaging, with an emphasis on studies on individual cells.

PhD student 3: Bioinformatician. The successful candidate will have a background as well as an interest in protein structures and structural modelling. The project will aim at the design of compounds that affect the activity of protein kinases and entire signalling pathways. This position is funded by VR.

Further information can be obtained by Stefan Hohmann (projects 1-3, hohmann@gmm.gu.se) and Anders Blomberg (projects 1 and 2, anders.blomberg@gmm.gu.se).
