Scholarship Description

The project forms a partnership between the BioMass BioEnergy Group & FIMLab at the UQ to contribute a new research concept of producing hydrogen from the natural breakdown of solid waste using an inorganic membrane. The aim of the project is to develop a biofilm reactor, enriching for H2 producing organisms on a H2 selective membrane that outcompetes methane forming organisms for the H2 that is produced. We are seeking highly motivated Chemical or Environmental Engineering graduates interested in reactor design & operation, including membrane optimisation, & biotechnology. Applied microbiologists interested in reactor design & quantitative analysis will also be suitable. Applicants who are only available to start their PhD in 2008 are encouraged to apply. Payment Information

The value of this scholarship is AUD25118 (maximum per annum). This award is to be used for living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: Biotechnology, Chemical engineering, Environmental engineering or Microbiology.
Eligibility

This scholarship requires you to have achieved Honours 2a or equivalent. Only citizens of Australia or New Zealand or permanent residents can apply.
