Plagiarism is taking ideas or writings from another person and offering them as original ideas. Plagiarism has always been considered inappropriate. It is important that students learn to give cre*** where cre*** is due and not to pass off anyone else's work as their own. What can be included? In all academic areas, it is imperative that work be original or that explicit acknowledgment be given for the use of another person's ideas or language. In a term paper, for example, failure to use quotation marks, even if a footnote source is provided, is plagiarism. Consult with your instructors regarding specific standards or procedures appropriate in each given field. Breaches of academic honesty will result in disciplinary measures. These can include: A failing grade for a particular assignment A failing grade for a particular course Suspension for various lengths of time or permanent expulsion Cheating Cheating involves dishonest behavior, such as copying from another person or getting any form of unauthorized help from a person or source.
