I've done a couple of practice tests from the likes of Cambridge Practice Tests, Insights into IELTS, etc but the progress is rather disappointing. The reason is that I can't get more than 31 correct answers in either Listening or Reading. People say that to score 7 - 8 marks on Listening or Reading in the actual test, one has to answer at least 35 questions correctly in Listening or Reading. But the problem is how to raise the correct answers from 31-31 to 35-37??? That's a tricky question to solve, isn't it? What's more, it's always much more difficult to listen intensively and give answers at the same time? How to overcome this difficulty?

Could anyone who scored high on IELTS or TOEFL help me with this trouble?

Your question is really hard to answer. I am taking TOEFL and dont know so much about IELTS but it seems that no one can give you the solution because we don't know much about you, your English, how can we help you? Well, I can simply tell you that pls find out our strengths and weaknesses, and then study hard to resolve your weaknesses. About such standardised tests as TOEFL or IELTs, you will soon be familar with the types of exerices after studying for a time. Therefore, take time to practice it, and your score will be improved gradually. About some tips or tricks in doing IELTS, I hope that someone else will help you. Dont feel disappointed anymore, it's time to study wise and scientifically.

Why is it that doing the reading part of TOEFL is always 1.5 to twice easier than that of IELTS? While TOEFL's reading doesn't ask too tough questions as to viewpoints of the author (Yes, No, Not Given questions), IELTS does it in virtually all of its passages. Over the course of 2 months now, I've done no fewer than 10 practice tests from the standardized practice tests like those of ETS Preparation Kit Volume 1&2, TOEFL CliffNotes, and the like, and I've found that I've always given correct answers to about 46-47 questions out of 50. However, when it comes to the much more challenging Reading part of IELTS, the performance is far from that achieved in TOEFL's Reading because I can't correctly answer more than 30 questions out of 40, which is 10 fewer than the number of questions in TOEFL. How come?
In ad***ion, TOEFL's Listening is prettly much easier than IELTS's because after listening to each of the Section 1's questions, you always have enough time (30 seconds) to read, analyse and give an answer to the question. And this is also true of the remaining Listening sections of TOEFL when you're not deprived of your precious time allowance to read, think, analyse and answer each of the questions in the Longer Talk or Conversations. However, this never happens in IELTS when you have to do everything at the same time. This kind of listening test is simply 3 times more challenging than the TOEFL's listening sections. How is a person listening with all of his concentration to understand and catch answers, and analyzing, finding and writing answers all at the same time? Nobody can concentrate solely on one thing while doing another well.
Any experience to get rid of this problem?
