Now, the VOA special English program: ?oWords and their Stories?. (bạn sót câu này rồi)
Most dogs in the US seem to have an easy life. They sleep a lot and get fat fed often (''được cho ăn thường xuyên'' mới đúng). People take their dogs for a walk 2 times a day and also let them play outside. Dogs get medical care when they are sick or injured. What a great life! (câu cảm thán) Right? Well, we say people with a similar care-free existence enjoy a ?odog?Ts life? (cái này chỉ apply cho người Mỹ thoai, chứ ''dog''s life'' ở VN thì te tua à nha). They have no troubles or responsibilities. They can come and go as they please, sleep all day, and never have to work.
But not everyone (đây là 1 từ, ko viết tách rời) has it so easy. In fact, some people say we live in a ?odog-eat-dog road world'' (cạnh tranh khốc liệt). That means many people are competing for the same things, like good jobs. They say that to be successful, a person has to ?owork like a dog?. This means they have to work very, very hard. Such hard work can make people ?odog-tired? (mệt lử), and the situation would be even worse if they became ?osick as a dog?.
Still, people say ?oevery dog has its day? (không ai giàu ba họ, không ai khó ba đời). This means that every person enjoys the successful period during his or her life. To be successful, people often have to learn new skills. Yet, some people say that ''you can never teach an old dog new tricks'' (tre già khó uốn). They believe that older people do not like to learn new things and will not change the way they do think things.
Some people are compared to dogs in bad ways: people who are unkind or uncaring can be described as ?omeaner than a junkyard dog?. Junkyard dogs live in places where people throw away things they do not want. Mean dogs are often used to guard the this properties property. They bark or attack people who try to enter the properties property. However, sometimes a person appears to be mean and threatening, but it (?~s) is really not so bad, we say: ?ohis bark is worse than his bite?.
A junkyard is not a fun place for a dog. Many dogs in the US sleep in safe little houses near the owners?T homes. These dog-houses provide shelters. Yet they can be cold and lonely in the winter.
Husbands and wives use this ?odog-house? term when they are angry at each other. For example, a women woman (khà khà, một người sao dùng số nhiều đc) might get angry at her husband for coming home late or forgetting their wedding anniversary. She might tell him that he is ''in the dog house?. She may not treat him nicely until he apologizes. However, her husband may decide that it is best to leave things alone and not create more problems. He might decide to let ?osleeping dogs lie ? life.
Dog?Ts expressions also are used to describe the weather: the ?odog days? of summer are the hottest days of the year. A rain storm may cool the weather, but we do not want it?Ts to rain too hard. We do not want it?Ts to ''rain cuts cats and dogs''.

Sixty years ago, the United States dropped atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Today, we tell about those two events that ended roadwork too.
Earlier this month tens of thousand people in Japan and around the world marked the sixty-year anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The U.S dropped the atomic bomb on the southern Japanese of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. More than seventy thousand people died as the results of the world first used of the atomic weapon. Three days later, a second bomb dropped on the city of Nagasaki killed as estimated 80 thousand civilians. Tens of thousands of Japanese died later from radiation poisoning and other atomic related diseases.
To honor victims of the attack, more than fifty and thousand people gathered in Hiroshima on August 6th. Japanese officials and foreign diplomats also attended the early morning ceremony. All mourners lowing their heads for a moment of silence at the exact moment of Hiroshima bombing.
The mayor at Hiroshima Tadatoshi Akiba called on the U.S to take steps to an end to nuclear weapon. He criticized the country with weapon as threatening human survivors. At similar ceremony which held in Nagasaki on August 9th at both events, Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi promise to keep Japan free of nuclear weapon.
The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led to the end of world war II . Japan informs the airline power that is would surrender on August 14th, 1945. On the day later, emperor Hirohito officially announced the surrender on Japanese national radio.
Sixty years after the atomic bombing, historians are still debating if they were necessary to end the war. At that time , ?????. In the Pacific continent and the U.S president Harry Truman was considering an invasion of Japan.
Some historians argued that millions of Japanese and American troops which have died in such invasion. Retired history professor ,Robert James Maddox wrote the book "weapon for victory- the Hiroshima decision". He said the American used the atomic bomb with never in question. In stead, president Truman to decide when the bomb would be dropped
Other historians, however, questioned the military of the decision, Kai Bird wrote a book about American Scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is considered the father of the military of the decision to use bomb . Some critics believed that Japan was about *****rrender when President Truman decided to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They say the real reason for the bombing was to send the message about American military string to the SOVIET union.
Historians say " were survivors in Asia remained angry over Japan'''' fear occupation during World War too?" for almost 4 years, Japanese forces occupied much of Asia from China to the pacific Asian unnecessarily. Experts say Japanese soldiers also ***ually attacked many Asian Women o used others as *** slaves. Japan argued that occupation was necessary to regain control Asia from American and European government.
Brian Farrell is the historian at the national University of Singapore. He told VOA''''s reporter head a base run that many survivors are sill angry at Japan. In ad***ion, Mr. Farrell said Japan''''s appearance lack of caring about its past cruelty has hurted its relation with other Asian Nation.
On August 2nd, the Japanese parliament passed the resolution expressing deep regret for the suffering that Japan called during the world war. Prime minister Koizumi released a similar statement on August 15th, the official day of Japan surrender. The statement said Japan called great damage and pain to the people of Asia through its colonization and aggression. The statement expressed deep sadness and hard-felt apology.
Other recent issues have harmed Japanese Tie with Asian nations. Earlier this year, Japan approved new school book for history classes. Critic say the book do not correctly describe the nation''''s action during world war II . Tension servers increased over visit by Japan officials to the Jassuny''''s memorial in Tokyo. The memorials honor Japanese soldier who died in military services. Critics say the memorials includes convicted work criminals

After The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing in 1945, Japan become a strong anti- nuclear nation. The attacks created a common feeling of opposition against atomic weapons. Since 1956, it has been national policy not to have manufacture ot permit nuclear weapons in Japan. However, the country has no successful nuclear energy industry. And ?.. are starting to question whether Japna should create an nuclear defense system . Kazuhiro Haraguchi is the parliament member from the opposition democratic party. He told VOA''s reporter this perman that is not Korean nuclear ability make soon for Japan to create its own nuclear weapons.
The world came very close to a nuclear war during the Cubin miser crises after discovering the SOVIET Union had been seeping nuclear miser to the country. The crises led to the 1968 nuclear non-proliferation treaty. Today about 190 countries have signed the international agreement. In exchange for giving up nuclear weapons to promise to work through nuclear discernment, They also have agreed not to pass nuclear weapon to country that do not have them, and they have agreed to share nuclear technology for peaceful energy persist only.
Today seven nations in the world are known to have nuclear weapon: Russia, China, French Pakistan, Britain and the U.S. Most experts believe that Isaerel and North Korean also have nuclear weapon. Many of these nations have produced the nuclear weapons. They include the U.S, Russia, Britain, and French. China is working to modernize its weapon program. Liberia had indeed its program to develop nuclear weapon. The international atomic evergy agency had taken apart in Iraq''s program.
But some experts questioned whether the world it any safer. In 2002, North Korean expel in exporter from the international atomic energy agency. It has seemed to smite that it has a small number of nuclear weapon. Talks among 6 nations, urging North Korean to end its nuclear program has produced little progress. The situation in Iran is also tent. Earlier this month, Iran refuses to honor international demands that it hoped its nuclear program. Iran restarted radium protesting activities at its for halt nuclear center. The international atomic energy agency has called on Iran *****spend its nuclear activities. If it failed to do so, the IAEA could report Iran to the U.S ''s Security Council which could order restriction against the country. Western nations expect Iran consequently not try to build nuclear weapon but Iran said it would not want nuclear technology- only to produce electricity.
Some experts say the lost frightening situation does not involve nations with nuclear weapon. They say it involve terrorist with nuclear material. Experts say terrorists could create a so-called dirty bomb with small amounts of radio active and explosive material. A more dangerous situation what involved a terrors bomb few with a small amounts of mitorium or highly enrich uranium. This kind of weapon located into a small truck or boat could destroy a city and kill larger number of people. Such in event could be like a second Hiroshima and Nagasaki; these two Japanese cities have been largely rebuilt today. But the lesion learnt from their destruction 60 years ago remained. J. Robert may have described the atomic weapon best, He called them a great danger but also the world created hope for lasting peace. Only time will tell if he was right.
