    hi all,

I've been reading news about the devastating flooding all all over Vietnam and I feel so sorry about all the fellows who have been suffering over there. With all the adverse impact of increasing deforestation, El Nino and skyrocketing population, our country is definitely facing an alarming situation. In fact, the death toll and damages caused by natural disasters go up every year during the flooding. Now even Sai Gon is affected!!!!. My heart is sinking whenever I envisage a floating Sai Gon city surrounded by just water in the coming years. Our generation and the next one WILL SURELY BE LIVING in JEOPARDY

My question is if someone is kind enough to update me about overseas aids for our people. I understand that the financial aids from foreign institutions would be much lower than before as foreign countries are experiencing similar problems and the global economy is in its worst shape, but if you can give some some figures, i can feel less intense about the situation.

    Thanks millions

UNICEF Alarmed Over Child Death Numbers In Vietnam Floods
HANOI (AP)--More than 90% of the 120 deaths so far in Vietnam's seasonal flooding in the southern Mekong Delta have been children, the U.N. Children's Fund said Friday.
The floods have claimed 109 children, most of them very young, UNICEF said in a statement.
"We remain gravely concerned that floods continue to exact such a heavy toll on the lives and health of so many young children, many of whom have little access to basic social services," said Anthony Bloomberg, head of UNICEF in Hanoi.
In ad***ion to the danger of drowning, hundreds of thousands of children are facing serious health threats from polluted drinking water and unsanitary living con***ions, the U.N. statement said.
More than half-a-million people are affected by the flooding and approximately 125,000 households have already been submerged.
Many of the evacuee sites for flood victims have no clean water or sanitary facilities. Families often get their drinking water from the river, which they also use for bathing, washing, and garbage disposal.
UNICEF called on donors to pledge another $500,000 for flood relief efforts.
Last year, floods in the Mekong Delta killed 385 people, including 302 children, and caused an estimated $100 million in damage.
Vietnam is prone to natural disasters. Flash flooding in central Vietnam last month killed 76 people while another 36 died in August after flooding in the north.
