    Hey all !!!!!
Watching movies or listening to music need interest. R u sure that the movies u like & the songs u love is suitable as English lessons ??? In my opinion, just watch what u like, listen what attract u, ignore the level of difficulty in them. Books have the same voice !!!
For English, i strongly recommend TV channels, especially CNN. I find all the lessons that a learner needs here. The advertisement is the easiest but it''s so cool ! Anyway, some live talks of Larry King & Oprah r so wonderful. If u find it a bit difficult to understand the listening ( oh god, here r speakers from many countries & they speak different English ), the sub-line will surely help u.
What more do u need ? THE INTERNET of course !!!
I''ll be back but now I''M SO HUNGRY

Seriously Ilu..^^ "lord of the rings" is much better as a motion picture..^^ I nearly fell asleep reading the first book. Too much details that again, dilute the intensity of the plot.
The "Harry Potter" series again is only suitable to certain readers. ^^ I find myself inclined to Britney, that short stories are rather more ''entertaining'' and doesn''t make you lose concentration. However, really good novels are completely worth it. =) (*drools* Do they have "Memoirs of a Geisha" translated in Vietnamese? ;_; !!! That is a great book!!! But really, don''t read it. ^^ I''m crazy).
For sources of good English novels, the English shop near Trang Tien street (I can''t recall the name but something like "Hanoi book store" or something near the Malaysian Airline office) have a few good books (a few? ^^ I must have bought 10 last time I was there!!!). But they are often classic novels (old English that are rather silly ^^; ). And other sources online, I wonder if anyone has read "Gatsby Vi dai" in Vietnamese, you can find that online in English. =) I adore this novel, really (although a little morbid, written unconvetionally and rather..boring..o_o)..but then again, it is based on personal interpretion.
Reading ''comics'' I suppose sometimes help..o_o..if your level of concentration is low and you just hate literature..^^ but I must say it won''t help much. Reading newspapers is really good as well, as newspaper writers are often the best at conventional and formal English.
Watching the news is an excellent idea!! =) I must say an ABSOLUTE turn on is the ***y Brittish accent!!!! ;_; !!!! *drools* so much better than Americans..=P.
For classic books lovers and most probably have read it all in Vietnamese, books like "Oliver Twist", "Moby Dick" are really good as well. John Grisham''s novels, are of course, the best of drama ^^ (I have read quite a few..I think I have missed one or two of his books. "The firm" I must say, tops the chart). If anyone has seen "Chocolat" (Johnny Depp starring =) ) , the novel is great as well.

    Doi la bien kho..

Oooo, Sil Sil Sil, you are not allowed to talked about LotR like that. It is one of the best novel ever, although kinda hard to chew threw it.
hey ilu86, look like you like fantasy novel. Have you tried the series "Forgotten Realm" of Salvatore?
What I have read and enjoyed:
    Salvatore''s "Forgotten Realm" series
    LotR
    Tom Clancy''s books
    James Clavell''s Shogun
    Harry Potter''s Series
    The 3 Musketeers
    20 years later
    Ivanhoe
A few more vampires and werewolf series that I cant remember the name.
yeah, watching TV Series definitely would help. I really enjoyed "Friends," "Full House," etc ....

Thanks. =) I meant to say that I have read it and it wá my favourite one. (Hahah..movie too!! Tom Cruise!! XD). Silly me. Thanks anyway.
Sorry for saying silly things about Lord of the Rings..^^. I really just cannot chew through it. Must have taken me weeks to finish 3 books, and that was terribly slow for me. ^^ Tom Clany books are good too. =) You read Terry Prachett books?

    Hi, How r you today?
Yes, I like movies of TOm Cruise and Tom Hank and KEvin cosner, They are guys with best voice in AMerica besides Bill Clinton. That''s why I absolutely consider Presentation skill as an important one. it is good When U feel, you are strongly persuasive.
Well, CNN Is really good when U have time, U have a variety of channels to choose, as a student, When I have to make any presentation, I Listen to these programs and try to learn how to focus on the important points, to attact, impress audience like those people in CNN. However, sometimes It is not relaxing, tired instead.
Some people try to pretend certain accent, like America, English, or Even Asian English. hehe. don''t be like that, sometimes It spoils your English and U should remember, the voice represents you, your ability to persuade and also your profession, your level of education.
Try to speak English to yourself everytime you can, Try to speak out without any hesitance.
    Have a nice day all!

oh c''''''''mon c''''''''mon Sil, i know you don''''''''t like LoTR as a book, sure! but you don''''''''t have to put it so low down, right? the part i like most about LoTR is actually the details, you know! together with the movie, it really created an image in my mind, and the image kinda flows and bring me more thrillings! it kinda provokes more imagination than anything else i''''''''ve ever read!!! and for this reason, i also love the sherlock holmes series (haven''''''''t chanced to read the original version in english just yet!!) recommend to anyone who''''''''s patient enough to read, and imagine, and thrill yourself to death for some murders going on!!!
well, as for the news!!! haizzz... i always hate reading newspaper and listening to news! its kinda too boring, with nothing much enjoyable and provoke imagination! anyway, it might be good if you can chew your breakfast and listen to BBC at the same time, have some coffee, and that''''''''s best! or maybe just try to follow some hot issues round the world, for instance SARS; Iraq war, 911 incident etc. but just some hot hot, 100 degree centigrade HOT issues are recommended, not those trivial stuff like "today, this guy die at this place, at this time, for.... car accident!" its'''''''' kinda stupid isn''''''''t it? kill my wills to read newspaper, ya know!
ya, and heavengarden made a point there that none of us should ever try to change our accent! be yourself and that''''''''s it, or otherwise, ruin the whole ****! for example, me here, i won''''''''t bother to learn to use aussie kinda accent or american kinda accent just for the sake of good impression. i''''''''d rather speak with "lah, loh, leh" hehe right, Sil *_*? that''''''''s so KOOL, and rather familiar to me hehe!!!
btw guys! can you be a little bit more practical? i can read TITLES alone anywhere, and all the for the sake of reading just the TITLES ALONE! be a bit more practical, gimme some URL or somewhere that i can get the book, or article or whatever, itlself! if you just want some best-seller titles, you can go to amazon.com and read all for yourself, you know! i need some sites that i can download those books, and please Voodool, i need something foc FREE OF CHARGE. not that when i download it''''''''s free, but when i look into my cre*** card it''''''''s not free anymore! if i''''''''m as rich as Bill Gates, maybe i won''''''''t mind sparing some bucks for it, but unfortunately i''''''''m as poor as Bill Gates is rich, get it?!
alright, that''''''''s it for now, have lotsa funs!
    itsa THL
PS: yes damark, i think i just love fantasy novel, and i chanced to heard of quite a few of those you recommended me to read, but i just didn''''t chance to come accross any sites that offer me to read it for FREE man! or at least i didn''''t pay enough time searching for one. as i said above, lest its free, or otherwise i must be as rich as Bill Gates, i won''''t spare a single bucks for any book ($_$)
PPS: this time to Sil hehe! hey Sil you luv all those Jap anime right? do you read Jap comics and did you chance to read Chobits series whether in Jap or Eng? if you did, do you know where to download it hehe ^_^? english translation is always better and more welcome =). if it''s jap, bet you won''t mind spare some time to translate it for me, right hehe =P +_+ *_*

Hi guys, this another remarkable topic on Books recommendation, but somehow only proficient English learners should click here, since most of the books recommended requires a pretty high level of English. Check it out!

Quite surprising topic, a glad-suprise in a way to find so many people who love reading. ^^
I don''t think I''d read "Snow falling on Cedars" for -fun-, considering it fits into the drama category and makes you think. "Inteview with the Vampire" scared the crap out of me..but if you enjoy it, should read the complete series, Anne Rice does have a touch with horror/sci-fi.
"Animal Farm" - George Orwell..is a political satire, and I''m not a big fan of anything political, let alone satiric. And despite his talent and unique view of the world, I just cannot swallow Orwell''s works.
I''d definitely recommend "Memoirs of a Geisha" - Arthur Golden though, it is a fantastic book!!! *dies*
Other books are all interesting..but somehow they don''t quite make it in my realm due to their market-ive nature (highly overated, while honesty is lacking and hard to relate to).
