Report: “Workshop: Conquer the IELTS test”
Time: 9am-11am, Sunday 6/5/2012
Place: Australia Room, GLN IELTS Review Center, 10th floor Keangnam Building, Pham Hung street
Starting at 9:00 A.M on a very beautiful Sunday, May 6, 2012; the workshop “Conquer the IELTS test” organized by Galec English Club and GLN IELTS Review Center was a great success!Despite the complicated way to Keangnam, the highest and most imposing building in Vietnam, all 104 participants did come on time, some even came 30’ prior to the showtime due to their excitement and interest in this event.
The workshop attracted many students and even lecturers from a wide range of universities
In the first 10 minutes of the workshop, our graceful MC (Dieu Anh) guided everybody to play an interesting game named “Pictures Talk” which helped attendants memorize and build up a larger idiomatic vocabulary. It was supposed to be a difficult game but to the organizers’ surprise, a lot of participants joined the game, answered correctly all the questions and received fancy gifts from Galec and GLN.
In the main part of the workshop, two invited guests had presentation on their own field. The first speakerwas Ms. Contessa, a professional, successful and well–known teacher guiding many students in the IELTS test with high score up to 8.0. She started her presentation by explaining the abbreviation “IELTS” and the process of an official IETLS test. Then, she emphasized on a lot of useful tips for each part of the IELTS test: “Don’t be surprised if you hear a range of accents and dialects as IELTS is an international test”; “Don’t concentrate on words you don’t know”….

Time management is very important and you should organize your essays well before writing.

A beautiful girl with really expressive voice was the second guest of the workshop. She is Hanh Lien, a very good student, who achieved 7.5 IELTS score in total and 9.0 for the reading part. Lien shared a lot of useful tips and practical situations that she experienced in her two times taking the IELTS test.
After the inspiring presentations of the two guest speakers, Q&A part played its role successfully in everyone’s eagerness. A lot of students asked Ms Contessa and Hanh Lien questions related to 4 parts of the IELTS test, the difficulties they usually meet and the tips for each challenge. Namely: “In Reading Part, how to scan effectively? How to find key words?”; “how to learn and remember academic words?”….
The workshop ended with the most intriguing part “IETLS speaking Mock Test”. In this part, there would be some participants chosen by their volunteer to take the brief speaking test with Ms. Contessa. Everybody seemed so excited about this part and lots of hands were up. However, there were just three lucky students chosen to come on the stage because of the time limit. They all were nervous at the first moment. As the time went on, they were more confident and gave Ms Contessa and others many impressions.

My name means “fighting”. I love “rush hours” :D
The workshop “Conquer the IELTS test” was a very useful and impressive one. Everybody came out with high satisfaction and appreciation. In their mind that time, there might be new thinking, new determination, and new future’s plans….
