Trap Opens Door For Baggio's Azzurri Return

05/07/2003. Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni has not ruled out the possibility of Brescia's veteran forward Roberto Baggio returning to the national scene.

The 'Divine Ponytail' has been out in the cold under 'Trap', but the Azzurri coach said: "Baggio will have other opportunities. There will be other friendlies, but the topic must be considered under both points of view, at 360 degrees."


I'm surprised as hell that Trap is all of a sudden considering Baggio. I thought all hope was lost. I'm not sure if this is only a rumor cause we all know that journalists write all kinds of stuff that turns out to be not true later. Nevertheless its great to hear that Baggio has a slight chance of playing in the national team again.

THAT'S FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!I would die to see Roby again in the national team!Don't judge Trap so bad!We have every right to be disturbed for what he has done in the past but, as Roby is,we must be positive!!!!!Think it this way!Trap wanted Baggio in the national team but Roby was injured and he was not sure anout taking him(with which I completely disagree)!Next year is the EURO 2004!It's also the last year for Roby!Despite what we feel I'm sure that Trap wants Roby!He has always had!That's the best way to take him back!In the begining it will be friendlies!Then it will be officials!AND don't forget:Roby has never played in Euro Finals before!!!I have faith in Roby and I'm sure he will give us many good moments again!Forza ROBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

Maybe Italian football is more tactical when result is more important than football itself.Now days only few player in Italy which skills near to Baggio.Most of the player now can only run run and tackle without knowing what to do with the ball.It is a shame! In the 90's we still have Donadoni,De Napoli,Gianinni,Zola,and offcourse Baggio.Maybe Mr Trapp want to prove to public that without Baggio Italy still doing fine,but what Italy got? in the recent freinflies , whom called "big stars players" were running n giving excusing for not playing e azzurri in the freindly matches esp the last one against swiss were the fans were so so upset cuz the azzurri lack its first line up players like the great DP n the amzing Inzaghi (bull ****).

linh: Well, easily can happen, as we know trap. He got many critics for his convocation against Switzerland, especially from the Swiss side. It could be a useful thing for him, because he wont have to call his fav. "big" players for the friendlies (and big clubs would be satisfied) and also Roby's fans would "be in silence" till he convoce Baggio. So it could be a double "good thing" for him. But still hope that his convoce can happen and not just because trap's selfish reasons. But if his selfish reason is that he wants to reach and win the Euro 2004, than can be selfish reason too.

linh: Cannot Understand Trap Basically, the generation of great playmakers that you mentioned has come and gone and the current generation is all tactics, because the coaches made it that way . . . Look at what happened to Roby. He wasted 2-3 years of his prime on the bench for Del Piero to "rise up" at Juve and for Inter to say they have him on their team. The coaches ruined the beautiful side of Italian football. Maybe the pendulum will swing with the current young stars coming up and some imagination will return. . .
