Ronaldo joy after scoring first goal for two years

BRESCIA, Italy, Dec 9 (AFP)
Inter Milan's Brazilian striker Ronaldo scored his first goal in a Serie A match for two years here Sunday, putting his side on course for a 3-1 victory against Brescia.
Ronaldo, who has had two injury-blighted years, struck after 19 minutes to the delight of his team-mates and his feat was even acknowledged by some opposing players.
The goal came after the 25-year-old Brazilian, twice voted FIFA's world player of the year, exchanged passes with Christian Vieri and despite Brescia appeals for offside he beat advancing 'keeper Luca Castellazi with his right foot.
"I am very happy - it's been a wonderful day," Ronaldo told RAI TV. "I am really happy that the coach played me from the start.
"I got on very well with Vieri today and I hope we can play together a lot more. I have always had a great desire to play. I want to thank all the fans for their support."
Strikers from other clubs were quick to congratulate the Brazilian.
AC Milan's injured Italian international striker Filippo Inzaghi and AS Roma's Argentinian star Gabriel Batistuta, who picked up an injury in his side's 2-1 victory over Parma, both passed on their best wishes.
"It is great news for football," said Batistuta.

Ronaldo's previous goal in the Italian first division was on November 21, 1999 when he scored his side's fifth goal in a 6-0 victory over Lecce from the penalty spot.
Ronaldo's goal was not only celebrated at Brescia. At Rome's Olympic Stadium fans of Lazio and Fiorentina both rose to their feet and applauded for a minute when informed by the electronic scoreboard that the Brazilian had scored.
In April 2000 at the Olympic Stadium, Ronaldo badly damaged ligaments just seven minutes into a substitute appearance for Inter against Lazio in what was his comeback appearance after five months out. There were fears at the time that he would never play again.
