SEC Tutoring Group - HOW MAY WE HELP YOU ?

OVERVIEW

Learning English has been increasingly becoming popular and important in today globalized world. According to the result from the poll by longarm, most people come to SEC with an intend to improve their English skills in one way or another. Having approval from SEC leaders and some other core members, we decide to form the SEC Tutoring Group, a program that provides help in English to our members.


MISSIONS
Our goal is to establish an active forum where English students can seek for quick, effective help in a friendly environment. We also discuss topical questions regarding the English language and our learning process.

Tasks we can do for you:
- correct a writing to an adequate level
- translate short essays or articles as you request
- provide suggestions to help you improve your writings
- help finding information for your research/essay
- provide useful tips on how to learn English more effective
- interact orally via voice-chat to help you practice your English speaking skill
- create games and activities to make learning English a fun experience
- simply help you in anything we can

Tasks we can NOT do:
- write an essay for you
- translate a long article (more than 300 words)
- cook your dinner (if you really want to then give CBC a call; there is a fee for this though)

As much as we want to help you, we are also very busy with our daily activities. Therefore there will be some delayed response or unsolved matters. Also, English is not the main language for almost all of us here. Therefore, it is inevitable for us to make mistakes. We appreciate your understanding.

For anyone who wants to practice English speaking, you can contact Mr. Richard and talk to him. He is a very nice American who wants to make friend with Vietnamese people. Please remember to be respectful to him.

Activity #1
WORD OF THE DAY

Building a good vocabulary knowledge is very important in learning a language. By having a rich vocabulary, you can express your ideas more effectively and professionally. One way to improve this skill is using the new words you learned as much as possible.

To help you enrich your vocabulary, everyday we will post one good word randomly chosen on the front page. Your task is to create a sentence that includes that word. We will select the best sentence and post it on the front page on the following day. At the end of the month, we will create a really cool online multiple-choice quiz to test how well you memorize and use these words.

I need SEC mems '' advices on English improvement of people who are not very socialized and shy. Two cases are my sister and niece who are staying in Sài Gòn. My sister is married, is so busy with her work and her daughters that she can''t find time to study English (even though she earned her English degree from The Univerisity of Social Sciences and Humanity but her English is very bad). I did advice her to read Viet Nam News (so cheap,) listen to BBC (recently I have asked and was answered by Ms. Trang, ) wacth English movies (like Friends) but no impact was observed. And for what reasons, I dun know (I fed up now.) My niece case is different. She is a 4th year student in HCM city University of Technology. She has a lot of spare time but too shy to socilized. I told her to go out, talk to poeple in English,make friends , then everything will be fine. But she doesn''t. Then, I gave up again. Hand-tied and leg-tied. Everybody, please me some good advices.Thank you.

Wow, this is exactly the things that I wanna see and look forward to joining it.
I agree with little_spiderman. This topic should be put on top as it inspires SEC for a bright future.
And by the way, can anybody help me to advise a place in Hochiminh City to learn effective speaking. Mine is rather good, but I wanna upgrade it to advance level.
Can we create an offline speaking club at SG where we can share ideas every month??? What do you think?

1st case : pls sympathize her because she got married and the family responsibility surely makes her have no time for cultivating her Eng. Anyway, I think that she can do some things in Eng.
For example : Letting her daughters study English in one professional English Center. Then at home, she will help her children in getting acquainted with Eng by talking to them in Eng with simple words and upgrade days by days. Listen to music, radio when doing chore. Take note to-do-works list in Eng.
2nd case : Is she shyer? if yes, first of all, I think she should cure their shyness. then, joining our SEC''s weekly online meeting coz we don''t know each other''s faces when speaking so let''s talk naturally, like me
