Hi all,
Very sorry for this late. Finally, my computer is ready now.
In the last session, a member raised the Topic on WTO. Given the accession of Vietnam to WTO recently, I think that this is worthy for us to discuss. Because there are so many problems under WTO, it is impossible to cover them in one session. Therefore, some sessions are necessary to cover the Topic on WTO.
Following is what you should prepare for today session.
I. Topic for discussion: WTO
Hints:
1. When did WTO come into existence? What is the predecessor of WTO? Why was GATT-WTO established?
2. The three main agreements of WTO (or the governing scope of WTO) are GATT, GATS and TRIPS. What are they?
3. GATT and WTO achieve its goal of promoting liberal trade through 4 core legal principles: (1) The Most-favoured-nation (MFN), (2) the National Treatment, (3) binding commitments to reduce tariffs on imports; and the elimination of quotas on imports.
What are MFN and National Treatment?
I know this Topic is quite academic. Thus, it will take your time to prepare. Anyway, just do your best. I hope that we all will learn more on WTO.
