SPEAKING & Pronunciation TIPS: you are too shy to speak? there are some hints here!

Hi guys,

This is the first time I came across this site, and I found this box is very useful for everyone , who are trying to improve english. I have to complement the oprerators for thier very good jobs.

Now, I just want to share some expreriences from myself in learning english. For many vietnamese people beginning to learn english, the very problem that many people have in common is...we just are too shy to speak up infront of other people. I also had the same problem before, and that prevented me from improving my speaking. 3 years ago, my english was really really poor, i couldnt opean my mouth even I know how to say it. But then, eventually I found a very good way to help my self. It sounds kindda stupid and funny, but ....anyway, it worked for me, and I hope it work for some of you as well.

So, here are the hints. First, try to take at least 15 minutes everyday to speak about ....any topic that you could think about at that momment ....in your bathroom, or elsewhere that nobody can hear you, speak it loudly and clearly Just pretent like you are speaking to the examiner in your IELTS test.

Second, try to listening to everything that is in .....english, and try to repeat right after it. For example, in your english class just sit at the back and try to repeat everything that the teacher is saying, or listen and repeat the english broadcaster on TV. (If you have and english channel et home it would be perfect ortherwise listnen to the english programme on VTV or ...whatever). If you have IDSL connection, there are quite many channels that are broascasting on internet.

Third, watch as many english movies as you can, and try to pick up the "natural english", fore instance you will find out that people on the street dont speak like a book , when they meet each other, they dont say "how do you do mister" or "how are you today sir, ..." but somthing like "What''''s up, man" or "Hey, give me some skin, man", or "How ye doin, bud".

Finnally and a very important one, DO NOT care about bad comments on your english, always believe in yourself, keep in mind that your english is great, keep working on it, you want to improve your english, dont you?

Everyday in the newspaper , there are many solutions from some big PHD to innovate our English teaching methodology but in fact it is stand-still state . How can students improve and learn English well when their teachers cannot speak English well ? Because our educational system is very old fashioned . Some of my ideas for the improvement in teaching English are : - Goverment should support schools to hire foreign teachers to teach speaking
-Kids should be stimulated to learn English , watch Egnlish cartoon and read simple fairy tales in English .
- If your English is good enough , You should talk with your kids in Egnlish when they are at beginning of life

I know that we are too shy to speak English, and the consequence is that we can''t speak English fluently. I''ve read an article on a newspaper ( I don''t remember the name), it said that Vietnam was one worst country in speaking English. I think we need the investment from the government.
We are very lucky to live in HCM city, we have the chance, the material to learn English but in the country, children don''t have this chance. Teachers are bad, how can pupils be good?
I''ve participated in an English club, I think it''s a great idea, there you can learn English from the others, and also the others can correct your "incompletion" in English. Besides, you can speak English without shyness ( you''re forced to do so).
Come on guys, you''re all welcome in all English clubs, that''s your chance, don''t miss it.

We can communicate in English when i arrive there this Febuary . I left VN when i was 10 years old.
Any off-line meeting in the 3rd week of Febuary ?
At your request, instead of saying
"And I think I should improve my English through this way,"
we usually say
"And i think this is how i should improve my English"
Nothing wrong with the way you say . However, the way you say, i assume, is the "VNmese way" and you simply translate word by word into English .
Don''t ask me way . It''s just language . The way we say things and convey our thoughts.
Let me give you an an example . Overhere, I met a VNese guy who claimed to be an English teacher . At first, i could not understand what he mean when he went: "You walk in my stomach"
Then, translating it into Vietnamese "Em đi guoc trong bung anh" , i realized that he really mean,
"You can read my mind"
