I. Warm up game: Hot Seat

The club is split up into two teams. One member from each team sits facing the group. The leader writes it on the board for all of the team members to see except for the two players in the hot seats. The teams must try to get the person in the hot seat to guess the word or phrase.

II.Free talk

1. How many people are there in your family? In your opinion, how many people/ generations in a household is typical of a modern family? Why? Does the generation gap affect you and your family much (understanding others’ problems and interests, making big decisions with one’s life, etc.)?
2. How much time do you think family members spend talking with each other daily? Do you think that amount is enough? How much is enough? What do you think are the causes for the decline in both quantity and quality of family communication?
3. According to you, what is the biggest difference between a modern family and a tra***ional family (the working wife/ mother, children live independently before marriage, the influence of parents over children’s lives, etc.)? Why?
4. Do you think the modern family lifestyle is more beneficial to you? Name 3 benefits of a tra***ional family. If you can choose, would you choose to live in a modern family? Why? Why not?

III. Group work

Scenario: You are the one of the two children in a 3-generation family. Both of your parents go to work and you and your sibling are still in school. That is why your parents want to send your grandparents to the nursing home (nhà dưỡng lão) for better care and timely aid. You disagree with this idea while your sibling encourage it.

Your mission: try to persuade your sibling and parents not to send your dear grandparents away.
