    Abstract
An energy-saving AC variable frequency speed-governing experiment system, based on the structure of two motors at the same shaft realized by DSP control, is introduced in this paper, which controls motor set at the same shaft run on different frequency and realizes variable frequency speed-governing of little load power-consumption based on the regenerate power feedback of motor group. Combining with the technology of space vector PWM, digital variable frequency speed-governing experiment system is realized based on TMS320LF2407A DSP.

Summary:Industrial processes are characterized by the necessity for variation and optimization of the process to achieve satisfactory products and to achieve the most efficient and economic method of production. This calls for the need to control the flow rates of materials throughout the plant so that the most satisfactory con***ion can be achieved against the many plant variables. AC induction motors are available in a range of efficiencies in each motor size class. The higher the horsepower, the higher the efficiency; most motors over 25 hp are more than 90% efficient. This paper is aimed at explaining the energy and costs benefits which can be obtained by using AC induction motors for this purpose.

Summary: This paper presents the application of non-linear predictive control algorithm to a helicopter model. First, the model of the helicopter is discussed. Next, the nonlinear algorithm is introduced which is based on state-space GPC controller. The non-linearity is handled by converting the state-dependent state-space representation into the linear time-varying representation. The predictions of the future controls are used to calculate predictions of the future states and of the future time varying system pa

Cell Reselection Parameter Optimization in UMTS
    Flore, D.; Brunner, C.; Grilli, F.; Vanghi, V.

    Volume , Issue , 7-7 Sept. 2005 Page(s):50 - 53

Summary:With UMTS deployments well underway, one of the key performance metrics is standby time. In idle mode, standby time depends on the cell reselection mechanism. Operators can adjust stand-by time and camping cell quality performance by optimizing operator-configurable cell reselection parameters to, for instance, differentiate their service from others. In this paper, the impact of these parameters is investigated based on diverse field data from different characteristic RF environments (e.g. outdoor, indoor, low/high speed, pilot/not pilot polluted) collected in commercial networks. Performance metrics (camping cell quality, relative standby time) are computed for different parameter sets using a simulation platform that makes efficient use of over-sampled channel measurements to improve reliability and includes a standby-time model described below. Simulation results illustrate the tradeoffs for different parameter settings in different RF environments. Interestingly, camping cell quality and standby time do not always run in opposite directions

    1. High-bandwidth designs for voltage regulators with peak-current control
    Abstract
In the multiphase interleaving buck converters with peak-current control, the sample-hold effect limits the bandwidth of the voltage-regulation loop. For higher bandwidth and better transient performances, this paper presents two methods to reduce this limitation. To decrease the quality factor of the sample-hold related double poles, external ramps are inserted to the modulators. To increase the effective sampling frequency, the phase inductor currents are coupled, either through feedback control or by the coupled-inductor structure. In ad***ion, a small-signal model including the sample-hold effect is derived for the coupled-inductor buck to explain the improvement. High-bandwidth designs are verified by the simulation and experimental results.

    2. Generalization of a nonlinear average current control method for CCM and DCM operation
This paper appears in: Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, 2008. APEC 2008. Twenty-Third Annual IEEE
    Abstract
The recently developed nonlinear average current control method is generalized to discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) of operation. Steady state and dynamic characteristics of the generalized control method are analyzed by sample-data as well as averaged models. Analysis and measurement results demonstrate that the resulting current loop is always stable and can achieve single-cycle transient to step changes in the reference current. Performance of the control method is also compared with conventional linear average current control, and applications of the method in dc-dc and single-phase PFC converters are demonstrated. A unified implementation of the control method for automatic detection and transition between CCM (continuous conduction mode) and DCM operation is also presented.

    3. Design consideration for power factor correction boost converteroperating at the boundary of continuous conduction mode anddiscontinuous conduction mode

    Abstract
A boost power converter operating at the boundary of continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) for power factor correction is described. Theoretically, the operation at the boundary of CCM and DCM is considered constant on-time for the boost switch. Due to finite switching frequency and capacitor filter effect, the switch turn-on time varies throughout the entire cycle. This variation of the switch on-time affects the average switching frequency and the circuit component selection criterion. The relationship between the circuit components and the switch on-time based on the fundamental principle of the power circuit operation is derived. A 44 W boost converter is designed and constructed accordingly. Experimental results show that the theoretical analysis along with practical design consideration can accurately predict the switch on-time and switching frequency

    4. Current waveform distortion in power factor correction circuitsemploying discontinuous-mode boost converters
    Liu, K.-H. Lin, Y.-L.
    ITT PowerSystems Corp., Tucson, AZ;

    Abstract
For active power factor correction circuits employing discontinuous-mode boost converters, the line current will automatically follow the sinusoidal line-voltage waveform. However, due to the modulation of the input inductor current discharging time, there is certain distortion in the AC line-current waveform. It is found that the modulation of inductor current discharging time is a function of the line voltage and the output voltage of the boost converter. For practical design considerations, the waveform distortion and the maximum power factor achievable are derived and presented in a graph form as functions of the ratio of line voltage to output voltage

    Abstract
The calculations and measurements are presented of power factor correction and distortion reduction using the peak current programmed boost topology. The topology and a regulator using a dedicated power factor controller are introduced. The input current waveshape is modeled mathematically, and analytical expressions for the calculation of the power factor and total harmonic distortion are derived. Various measurement method are described, and actual data related to the high-power regulator are presented, including pictures of the low-frequency spectrum of the input current. An enhancement circuit is added to the original regulator circuit, and another set of data is taken. Calculated and measured data are summarized and compared to the IEC 555-2 specifications

    Abstract
An experimental comparison is made between a sliding-mode controller and a classical controller for stabilizing and commanding a magnetic levitation system. The sliding-mode method can be applied to a nonlinear system in the global sense, and the issues of performance and robustness to modeling uncertainties and disturbances can be directly incorporated in the design as tradeoff parameters
