[1] XML based description model as a platform for Web-based Maintenance
    Wollschlaeger, M.; Bangemann, T.
Industrial Informatics, 2004. INDIN apos;04. 2004 2nd IEEE International Conference on
    Volume , Issue , 24-26 June 2004 Page(s): 125 - 130
    Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/INDIN.2004.1417315
Summary: Web technologies are gaining increased importance in automation and control systems. The choice of appropriate Web technologies depends on the use cases in the application environment. However, it is important not only to focus on one single technology, but to combine and to integrate different Web technologies within a portal. The paper discusses such a Web portal for maintenance purposes, which uses several Web technologies. It is based on a model describing the relations between topological and functional entities of the application system and the single Web technologies used. This hierarchical description model is defined in XML. The structure of this model is described and the use of description information for the realization of different functionality is shown. Special attention is paid to the security features of the solution. This requires specific description elements, ensuring access to description is limited to functional roles or user personalization. Different implementation aspects, and experiences derived from two prototype implementations are discussed.
[2] High speed data exchange protocol for modern distributed data acquisition systems based on OPC XML-DA
    Chilingaryan, S.; Eppler, W.
    Real Time Conference, 2005. 14th IEEE-NPSS
    Volume , Issue , 4-10 June 2005 Page(s): 5 pp. -
    Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/RTC.2005.1547472
Summary: The current work was inspired by the requirement to develop a data exchange protocol for the distributed data acquisition systems used for several long term experiments. These experiments have different requirements to the performance of the system, but compatibility with high level standards was a major goal for all of them. The primary objective of the project described here is to produce a universal middleware solution which can be used for almost any experiment independent of the data rates, real-time demands and metadata requirements. The opportunity to reuse software components made by scientists from different groups around the world is a great advantage of such high level design over legacy proprietary data acquisition systems. However, conformity with the high level standards, which are mainly based on XML technologies nowadays, makes it difficult *****stain high data rates required by certain installations. The paper proposes a data exchange protocol developed on top of the industry accepted OPC XML-DA and OPC complex data specifications, while acceptable performance is achieved by providing several extensions. The main attention was attended to the consistency with high level standards, multi-platform compatibility, interoperability in heterogeneous environments and high performance. The implementation of the protocol is mostly completed and first preliminary tests with benchmark results are introduced.
[3] Modern Distributed Data Acquisition and Control Systems Based on OPC Techniques
Abstract: Web technologies are gaining increased importance in automation control systems, especially in slow control systems. Alternatively, the requirements to exchange the complex data between the cooperating applications and the applications-based non-Microsoft Platforms are widely increasing in the industrial systems. The applications-based OPC (OLE for Process Control) technique to exchange data between the measurement and control systems on plant floor with XML leverages are proposed in the OPC XML DA (Data Access) Specification. Moreover, we are expecting a system that allows easily aggregating the existing productions and maintenance managements with new products as frameworks. This system also allows exchanging the data between collaborating applications in horizon. Besides, the high performance and the ability to read and decode any type of the data from measurement and control systems are important factors in the application design. This paper introduces new control system aspects that are used for the design of slow control systems. In general, they are based on the OPC and XML technologies. Main aspects are the throughout of standards for interfaces, functionalities and architectures. To guarantee the security problems in system, this paper also discusses the levels of the security in automation and control systems. These discussions provide more security solutions for technical-level readers.
