õ?oEat Tetõ? õ?" New Year in Viet Nam.
Each holiday has specific characteristics of season, but favourite festival is the tra***ional Tet of spring in my fatherland- Viet Nam. Tet the is lunar new year, Vietnamese people usually call õ?oeat Tetõ?. This is the happy time to make the communion of human being with nature, and the time to relaxed and enjoy tra***ional food such as a square-shaped sticky rice cakes, spring rolls, bamboo shootsõ?Ư Moreover, it is the beginning of the new year.
The Gregorian New Year calendar has not been generally accepted in Vietnam, Tet falls sometime between the last ten days of January and the middle part of February.
In my country, Tet like the New year in the West, it marks the Spring. Tet holiday is three days. The first day of Tet is saved up for family and relatives. The second day is reserved for best friends, guestsõ?Ư The third day is for visiting teacher, friend and some special business associates.
Christmas trees in Holland are decorated with a lot of greeting cards, small gifts, lovely cosmeticsõ?ƯThe new year tree in Viet Nam is like that, they are Dao, Mai, Quat- trees bring luck and happiness for each family. My grand mother always buys Mai every year. There is a run on branches of the Mai tree, a symbol of spring, which bears lucky little yellow flowers. Greeting cards and good luck symbols are hung from Tet trees. In ad***ion, in Vietnamese table at new year always have jammed with cadies and dried melon seeds to welcome guest. If you come to every house, people will invite you for tra***ional food until you feel too full. Vietnamese people are very open , specially at Tet, people always smile and say good thing.s
When I was a child, I hoped everyday was Tet. You know why? Because Tet is a happy day of children. The adult will li xi to children. Li xi is mean luck money, in red envelopes from their parents, older relatives and older friends. I were in beautiful dress and eat every thing I like such as candies or cake though my parent didnõ?Tt want me to eat too much. At Tet, my mother is never angry with me at though I do some things wrong. Tet for children is paradise.
Aõ? cau doiõ?- "sentence pair", wine, watermelon can not be absent from the ancestral altar. Tet- It is a time for family reunions, to memorize ancestry. There is a Vietnamese saying related to ancestor worship "Trees have roots; water has a source when drinking from the spring, one must remember the source." Thanks are offered to those ancestors who laboured long ago to dig irrigation channels and remove mountains for this generation to have an easier life.
Some year a go, there are bells ring, fire-cracker break out, and drums beat in temple when new year come (giao thua). It is very happy and noisy. But now, the Government forbidden people to use fire cracker because it waste and danger. The mordent Tet in Viet Nam now havenõ?Tt got fire-crackers, some time people miss it and made some thing like it. People make fire-cracker from a lot of pink balloon and sting it .
All Vietnamese women like to wear their long dress(ao dai) õ?" the tra***ional costumer to visiting friend family, go to temple, Pagoda. There are many stylish variations in colour and collar design. A long time a go, the õ?oAo dai õ?owas tailored with four panels, two of which were tied in back. Now, visit Viet Nam in Tet holiday, you can fall deeply in love when seeing Vietnamese women in õ?oAo daiõ?. It honours the beautiful and the tra***ion of my country.
In conclusion, I want to say that õ?oI love spring and I love Tet holidayõ?. Tet is the tra***ional holiday in my country, the time for all people enjoy the life and share happyness. This year, 12/2/2002 is the Tet holiday in Viet Nam. Living in Holland I want to õ?oli xiõ? all people best wishes and happy new year. It means I want to share my Tet with everybody.
