What do you think about the cost of living in HCM city ? Is it expensive or cheap ? Specially in the central of HCM city .
In my oppinion , The cost in HCM is more expensive than any different city around VietNam ,specilly in the central , the supermarket or any fashion shops . Let me give you an example i went to the Tulip shop ( i just went across and suddenly saw one jean is very beautiful ) . I asked them how much of this jean . Oh my God , it costs 1 million Vietnam dongs . I went out immediately ( sometime i 've gone across and look at that shop , having some beautiful girls bought in that shop . I always ask myself why they are too rich . ) . In ad***ion , in the central of HCM city , the cost is very very expensive ( maybe costs 50% more than the countryside ) .

I have to concur with you, EmGai, on this point. A pair of designer blue jean in the US would not cost that much ( $50 or less) . The housing cost is the most ridiculous. While average income is around $1000 - $2000 /per year , a house costs in the hundred thousand US dollar ??? sometimes, tiny, street-front houses in the center of Saigon , cost up to one million or 2 million dollars . Who can afford buying those houses ? Even in the US, housing cost is much , much lower while the average income is at 20 - 30 times more , i.e. around $35000/year . In Houston, a 200 thousand $ house buy you a 3000 square feet ( equivalent to one thousand m2) or larger . While those million dollar houses in Saigon average about 200 - 300 square meters ????
That kind of cost boggles my mind . How you, Saigoneses , can sustain that exorbitant cost of living ? . You all have my sympathy and respect .

    You are wrong Tdhung
SG have the average cost of house and the very cheap living expense
    Let me explain
you compare SG and Houston or texas , rite? that's not fair , if u'll go to my city . San jose , LAs vegas or LA .THe mobile home price is at least 80k or above . An average house (not in downtown ) is ranged from 350k-500k
In SG some house is pretty high price b/c they are big or so if you exchange into USD then u 'll conceive that it's lower than other place. For example , an 4x25 house in Nam ky khoi nghia is range about 400-700 gold bars means that 100k or 200k or so
About the price of jean hehe , in here i can get the very bad quality jean with 17 bucks or so but the good jean cost me about 50-200 or so hehe , VN is much more cheaper
The reason is the income level of our people is so low .

That's exactly my point, Zerocool. Take for example a young couple, just get married, both with a college degree and making a combine income of US $4000 - $6000 a year , how could they ever afford to buy a $100 K - $200 K house (K stands for 1000). If they can put aside $1000/year, it will take them ... 100 years ????
Can you see the desperation of those youngsters in Saigon or Hanoi ? The housing cost is ridiculously un-proportional to the average income ....and that is the $100K question ?

oh man , how can people in US get a kind of income which is about 4k-6k a year
Hahahhaha that's ridiculuos , in here people at least (like me work part time or sum1 who take full time with low level income job like waiter in VN restaurant ------> about 12k/1 yr or above )
The law of California demand the employer pay to the employee atleast 5,25 bucks/ hour u can calculate that ,man hahha . For EX, i am now have a Job that is about 1000 bucks a months so, i dont have to pay tax and this is in cash (in my case)------> 12k/yr
And a person who graduate from college can find a job which is at least 24k or so haha how can a person live with a 4k or 6k/ yr
    you dont know man hahaha
People here they dont buy house like in VN .FOr EX, when u buy a 500k house , u must have to deposit a sum of money called "down money" .The more u deposit , the less u 'll have to pay for the interest .After that . you have to pay the interest and the expense per month through your account . Everybody even superstar or millionair do so ^_^
u'll have to read more book abt the Amer life

I was refering to the couple living in Saigon, not the US. I was trying to show the discrepancy of wage versus housing cost in VN , particularly Saigon or Hanoi.
Noone , working full time in the US, make less than 10K /year since the minimum wage is $5.25/hour .
I guess I did not make myself very clear. Sorry.
