    INTRODUCTION
    Introduction
Walking into the 21st century, globalization has opened up a whole new perspective of trading, communication and international relations. It creates a global community, simplifies communication and transportation. Australia is gaining many advantages by participate in this globalization process. However, it is not all gaining, other countries are paying the price.
First world countries, who are making billions of dollars every year, realise that third world countries do play a very important part in this making money chain.
The fact is third world countries cannot afford new technology to process their raw resources. We all know that raw materials aren?Tt worth much, without being processed, it sometimes can be considered worthless. So what do these countries do? They sell their raw materials with unbelievable cheap prices. 1 kg of raw coffee beans is sold at less than USD$2, while the same amount coffee of the same type, costs USD$15 in American?Ts supermarkets.
Rich countries don?Tt stop there. They?Tve also found a new cheap resource in third world countries. Labour cost. Labourers in third world countries are ready to work in badly con***ioned places, from early in the morning, to the dark at night, just to get paid at USD$2-5 per day. We all know the infamous case of Nike, where underage workers, mostly 12-15 year-old children, work in damp, and terrible con***ions, just to get paid USD$2-5/day. Not this, seems beyond belief compare to American workers. Where, workers have the right to have insurance, suparannuation, and get paid at least USD$30/day.
Buyers buy those products with cheap prices, but don?Tt realize that they do not reflect the real cost of production. Companies sell those products at the lowest possible price, regardless of the human, social or ecological consequences.
    Problem
Surely, we don?Tt want this to happen. But then we find ourselves facing a great problem. First of all, wê?Td have to pay at least double to what wed normally have to pay. This can lead to disruption in many countries?T economies, including our own.
Then, there is the problem of labouring. If Nike stop hiring underage workers, they?Td starve to death anyway. They?Td rather get poorly paid, work hard, in terrible work con***ions, rather than not having a job at all.
    Solutions
Fortunately for us, those problems are fixable however. The term FAIR TRADE is somewhat foreign to many people. But it is a new and effective way of making our global community a better place to live, and to trade.
    WHAT IS FAIR TRADE?
    Definition
Fair trade is an alternative way to improve international trade. It is a trading partnership which aims at sustainable development for excluded and disadvantaged producers. Free Trade is the opposite of Fair Trade, to freely trade goods, without caring what others, producers and workers have to go through. As long as the demand is there, the goods have to be produced. Fair trading seeks to stop this by:
    ? providing better trading con***ions
    ? awareness raising
    ? campaigning
    Goals of Fair Trade
, Improving the work con***ions of labourers: by improving market prices, providing technology to third world countries, and by campaigning human rights! Especially women and indigenous people, and to protect children from exploitation in the production process.
, Education?Ts awareness: Make people aware of the unfairness that are going on around the world, call upon supporters.
, Setting an example of partnership: in trade through dialogue, transparency and respect.
, Protecting human rights by promoting social justice, sound environmental practices and economic security.
    ROLE PLAYERS
    Fair trade organizations
, FLO-I: a world-wide umbrella organisation of 17 national labelling initiatives, an independent certification body which sets Fair Trade standards and monitors producer and trader compliance with Fair Trade criteria.
    , FLO INTERNATIONAL
, IFAT: International Federation for Alternative Trade (IFAT) is a global, democratically organised network of Alternative (or Fair) Trading Organisations and producer organisations in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and the Pacific Rim.
, NEWS! was esta0blished in 1994. It co-ordinates the co-operation between World Shops in Europe.
    Supporters
Everyone can become a supporter for fair trading, helping to fight free trade. There are millions participants from all over the world, who are doing their best, to make a difference! So be a part of it!
    WHAT HAS TO BE DONE?
You may think that joining those organizations is the only way, but quite the contrary, there are a lot more ways, more important in some way, to help.

    Government Policies
The Government will have a very important role in this issue. It is the way that a government is structured that problems like this can be solved. If the government?Ts policies are *****pport Free Trading, than it is most likely that the whole country would have to follow. If a business owner goes against this, he or she will have to face enormous tax, higher prices compare with other competitors, and the business is most likely to go down the drain.
The selected Political Party is the driving force. In Australia, it could be difficult to go against Free Trading, because let?Ts face it, everybody earns money with Free Trading. Because Australia is not a third world country, in fact it is quite the opposite, Australia is the one who earns $, if it chooses to follow Free Trading.
But that is the thing, we have the choice *****pport or to be against, we, Australian citizens have the choice to whether squeeze money out of third world countries, or to help them. It is us who decides what policies, what political party *****pport.
But are we aware of Fair and Free Trading? Do our knowledge contain the word: Globalization? This leads us to the next important thing.
    Education
What use is there if we, young Australians, the future of our country, are not aware of Fair Trading, Free Trading and what globalization is doing to the rest of the world. Education is a very important key, every Australians should be aware that every little thing they do everyday can effect other people in the other side of the world. Schools, Universities, the media, teachers, students, everyone, absolutely everyone should be taught, or be made aware of Globalization, Fair Trade and Free Trade.
Australians should also be notified of the things they can do every day to help. They can tell other people about it, they can join groups and organizations. Everyone can take part of it. You might wonder, what else there is to help. Well, the answer is simple.
    Labeling
All Fair traded and Free Traded goods should be clearly labeled. Buyers need to know what they are buying, who they are supporting. Labeling agencies should be notified of what they can do to help. Even if you don?Tt want to help, others have the right to know. Just like the ingredients, fat contents, where the goods were made, Fair Trading should also be noted on the label.
