1st là do chính phủ chỉ thực hiện cái "chính sách trên truyền hình" chứ ko phải CSĐN. VÌ công chúng chỉ được thấy những gì đang diễn ra ( í là việc triển khai của CSĐN) chứ ko phải hiểu được bản chất tại sao nó lại như thế. (Ví dụ như cuộc chiến Iraq, người ta chỉ biết lính Mỹ được điều động thế nào, chứ ko đề cập tới những động cơ, lợi ích thực sự của US ở đây). Nhiều người trong giới truyền thông, khi phản biện những chỉ trích từ phía chính phủ rằng báo chí/truyền hình đưa tin về CSĐN không trung thực, nêu lên được 2 điều. Một là, chính phủ thường chỉ chuyên đặt ra luật lệ bắt ngành truyền hình phải tuân theo, chứ không chuyên lập ra CSĐN. Có tin gì xảy ra thì giới truyền hình chiếu cho công chúng Mỹ xem tin ấy.

Sự quan tâm của giới truyền thông Mỹ về các vấn đề quan hệ quốc tế thì không đồng bộ : tùy theo loại tin tức, quyết định loan tải dựa trên 3 yếu tố :
- Tính giật gân
- Tính khu vực và có ảnh hưởng trực tiếp
- Giá cả
Tính giật gân là ý nói về khả năng gây sốc của một bản tin. Khả năng này chỉ đạo cho giới truyền thông chú tâm vào các bản tin mang tính ngắn hạn, nổi bật, và bớt chú tâm vào các bản tin dài hạn. Tin về nội chiến, biểu tình, thiên tai ... dễ tạo chú ý hơn là tin về sản lượng nông nghiệp hay các dự án phát triển nông thôn.
Tính khu vực và có ảnh hưởng trực tiếp có liên quan đến bản tánh thờ ơ của người Mỹ đối với một nguồn tin. Thường nguồn tin nào về một vùng có liên quan kinh tế văn hóa với Mỹ, như Mỹ LaTinh, Do Thái, Tây Âu, hay nơi có quân Mỹ trú đóng thì mới gây chú ý. Nhà Trắng thường ra chỉ thị về vấn đề này.
