Given the longevity of architecture in the city, there are an increasing number of buildings still fit for use despite having outlived their functional role. Particularly without regard to progress in IT, this tendency is notable among small-and medium-scale office buildings. Moreover, buildings beloved by the people of a neighborhood, buildings that deserve preservation, or warehouses in good locations, can be considered for the revitalization of urban memories. On the other hand, even among people who want suburban residences, within the diversification of residential types there are many people who desire to commute back and forth to the city.
Taking such situations positively, it could be said that schemes for the conversion of existing buildings in order to live in the city center will become an important new role for architects.
These residential forms would of course include use as mass housing, but various other usages, such as the long-term stay model or small hotel, can also be considered. Even mass housing is not limited to families and those living on their own; many new models continue to be requested, such as the SOHO model and the room-share. The increase of these models of living places may also be useful for the activation of the city.
Application should each choose existing buildings for their entries. In establishing ways to convert these into rich urban residences, concrete proposals are preferable to the presentation of abstract concept and ideas.
From now on, this competition will adopt a two-stage method of first judging by drawings, and then judging by interviews open to the public. It will also emphasize reality as a judging criterion.
What is meant here by reality is not the ability for a project to be directly implemented, but rather a clear expression of the ambition and potential to transform society and the era through architecture. By comprehending this meaning, we hope to receive entries that are appropriate to constructing the future.

Photographs of models may be used. You are free to append detail drawing, other charts or descriptive texts that make your design clearer.
Descriptive texts must be limited to less than 100 words in English.


Paper and Media;
* Complete all drawings, illustrative matters, and texts on one sheet of thick drawing paper (600by 840mm).
* You may use blue prints, pencil, ink, color, or photographs; but do not use panels.
* On the back of your entry attach a piece of paper bearing your name, address, age, home and office telephone numbers (or fax numbers), e-mail address, place of occupation. All of these have to be ''typewritten'' for the sake of legibility.

First stage: First stage finalists (10 teams) will be notified of their selection by the end of July. Winners will be notified by mail; result of the first stage will appear in website (http://www.cgco.co.jp/) on August 2006.
Second stage: The finalist will present their proposals at September 23, 2006 and the Judges will choose the winner before the public. The finalist will be invited to Tokyo, Japan.




Winners will be announced in the 2006 November issue of "SHINKENCHIKU" and vol. 64 issue of "THE JAPAN ARCHITECT"




* No registrations are necessary for this competition.
* Entries must never have been made public in any from previously, nor should it be submitted simultaneously for any other competitions.
* Copyrights on the winning entries remain the property of their designers, but the sponsors.
* Question will not be answered by the sponsors. All matters not covered in the regulations listed above are left to the discretion of the entrants.
* A part of the work or all must not infringe a copyright. Do not use the images copied from the magazines, books and websites. When there is the infringement of the copyright, winning will be taken back in the sponsor?Ts judgment.
* No entries will be returned.
* The entry would be admitted only its submission keeps all the rules appropriately.

From aft camethe tunes of the band. It was a ragtime tune. I don''t know that. The there was "Autumn" ... I went to the place i had the seen the collapsible boat on the deck, and to my suprise i saw the boat, and the men still trying to push it off. I guess there wasn''t the sailor in the crowd. They couldn''t do it. I went up to them and was lending a hand when a large wave came awash of the deck. The big wave carried the boat off. I had hold of an oarlock and i went with it. The next thing i knew i was in the boat. But that was not all. I was in the boat and the boat was upsign-down and i was under it. And i remember realising i was wet through and that whatever happended i must not the braeathe, for i was under water. I knew i had to fight for it and i did. How i got out from under boat. I did not know
but i felt a breath of air as last. There were men all around me-hundreds of them. The sea was dotted with them, all depending on their lifebelts. I felt i simply had to get away from the ship. She was a beautiful sight then. Smoke and sparks were rushing out of her funnel. There must have been exploision, but we heard none. We only saw the big stream of sparks. The ship was turning gradually on her nose - just like a duck that goes for a dive. I had only one thing in my mind-to get away the suction. The band was still playing "Autumn"" then. I awam with all my might. I suppose i was150 feet away when the Titanic, on her nose, with her after-quarter stricking straight up in the air, beganto settle - slowly.
