Em cũng chẳng biết tiếng anh, nên từ altar theo một số từ điển mà em đã tham khảo thì có 2 nghĩa:
1. A raised structure (as a square or oblong erection of stone or wood) on which sacrifices are offered or incense burned to
a deity.

2. In the Christian church, a construction of stone, wood, or other material for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist; the communion table.

nghĩa theo đạo Thiên Chúa thì đúng là cái bục đấy đấy, nhưng ko biết dịch thế nào cho hay, chắc dịch là bàn thánh lễ hay bàn làm lễ cũng được rồi.

Podium:

Như vậy nếu dịch ra tiếng việt sẽ là: bục ( không hiểu có mang nghĩa bục nơi cha sứ giảng đạo không nữa), dãy ghế vòng quanh ở trong một phòng or ở một đấu trường ( nhưng nơi đấu bò ở TBN chẳng hạn)

Như vậy nếu dịch ra tiếng việt sẽ là: bục ( không hiểu có mang nghĩa bục nơi cha sứ giảng đạo không nữa), dãy ghế vòng quanh ở trong một phòng or ở một đấu trường ( nhưng nơi đấu bò ở TBN chẳng hạn)

Theo tớ hiểu thì từ pulpit là cái bục giảng (kinh) trong nhà thờ. Sau này có thêm nghĩa phái sinh là giới tăng lữ.
Còn podium là cái bục nói chung, như là bục giảng (lần này là dành cho giáo viên), bục của người dẫn giàn nhạc ... Cũng là bục danh dự (nơi trao giải của vận động viên thắng cuộc).
Từ điển còn thêm vào cho podium vài nghĩa chuyên môn:
(1) Tường xây quanh đấu trường (La Mã cổ đại)
(2) Khán đài xây trên tường này
(3) Tường thấp dùng làm giá để đồ đạc (khảo cổ)
