Người ta đã làm ra viên thuốc để chữa bệnh nghĩa là không thừa chỗ nào cả. Nó có vỏ bọc thì nghĩa là phải uống cả bọc, nếu không thì tốn công làm vỏ làm gì? Tớ nghĩ rằng phải uống cả vỏ (trừ một số trường hợp đặc biệt)

Part Used & Method of Pharm. Preparation:
The roots are dug in winter, dried and cut into slices.
Properties & Taste:
Bitter, sour and neutral
Meridians:
Liver and kidney
Functions:
To invigorate blood, release stagnation and promote menstruation;
To tonify liver and kidneys, and strengthen the tendons and muscles;
To promote urination and relieve urinary disorders;
To conduct blood flow downward
Indications & Combinations:
Blood stagnation manifested as amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation and pains due to external injuries. Cyathula root (Niuxi) is used with Peach seed (Taoren), Safflower (Honghua), Chinese angelica root (Danggui) and Corydalis tuber (Yanhusuo).
Deficiency of the liver and kidneys manifested as soreness and weakness in the lumbar region and legs. Cyathula root (Niuxi) is used with Mulberry mistletoe (Sangjisheng), Eucommia bark (Duzhong) and Cibot rhizome (Gouji).
Extravasation of blood by heat manifested as vomiting with blood and epistaxis. Cyathula root (Niuxi) is used with Small thistle (Xiaoji), Biota tops (Cebaiye) and Imperata rhizome (Baimaogen).
Deficient yin with hyperactive yang leading to internal liver wind going upward manifested as headache, dizziness and vertigo. Cyathula root (Niuxi) is used with Red ochre (Daizheshi), Oyster shell (Muli) and Dragon''s bone (Longgu) in the formula Zhengan Xifeng Tang.
Deficient yin and excessive fire manifested as ulceration of the mouth and gum swelling. Cyathula root (Niuxi) is used with Fresh rehmannia root (Shengdihuang) and Anemarrhena rhizome (Zhimu).
Urinary tract disorders manifested as painful urination, hematuria and dysuria. Cyathula root (Niuxi) is used with Ricepaper pith (Tongcao), Talc (Huashi) and Pink (Qumai) in the formula Niuxi Tang.
Dosage: 6-15 g
Cautions & Contraindications:
This herb is contraindicated during pregnancy, or with profuse menstrual flow.

Bitter flavour : The drugs with bitter flavour generally contain alkaloids , terpenes and glycosides ( including flavone glycoside , anthraquinone glycoside , cardiac glycoside , steroid glycoside , cyanophoric glycoside , phenol glycoside and others ) . Generally speaking , the stronger alkalinity of alkaloid is , the more bitter it is , and after it produce salt , the latter is still bitter . Terpenes with the structures , such as lactone , aldolactol , internal hydrogen bond , glycoside , hydroxyl and others which can produce chelates are bitter . Polyhydric alcohols , glycosides and sterols in which specific value of number of hydroxyl to that of carbon atom R is between 2-7 are bitter . Relaxing the bowels to expel interior-heat refers to the effects of moving the bowels and lowering metabolic rate of the organism . Sending down adverse flow of vital energy to expel heat-evil refers to the effect of inhibiting the respiratory centers to relieve cough and asthma . Clearing away heat refers to the effects of inhibiting secretion of yang hormones , inhibiting the central nerves , and lowering blood pressure . Depriving evil wetness refers to the effect of inhibiting inflammatory exudation . Fortifying yin refers to the effects of decreasing excitability of the sympathetic system and increasing excitability of the parasympathetic system .
