Boeing SLAM ER Modified To Engage Moving Targets On Land

Boeing has modified the Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response (SLAM ER) to engage land-based moving targets (LMT). The U.S. Navy declared the missile system, with its enhanced targeting software, operationally effective against LMTs on July 2 following a successful Operational Evaluation.
"Upgrading SLAM ER with the land-based moving target function adds a key capability to the warfighter''s arsenal," said Steve Morrow, Boeing director of Naval Weapon Programs.
"We look forward to helping the Navy train the fleet to use this new capability."

Raytheon chuyển giao trái ESSM thứ một nghìn. ESSM được thiết kế đặc biệt cho nhiệm vụ tiêu diệt tên lửa hành trình chống tầu siêu thanh. Ngoài ra nó cũng có thể dùng tiêu diệt mục tiêu nhỏ trên mặt nước kể cả loại cao tốc. Nói chung tương tự SM-IIIA/B nhưng tầm ngắn hơn. Với 3 lớp phòng thủ từ xa có SM-IV rồi đến SM-IIIA/B gần hơn có ESSM đã chấp dứt thời đại tên lửa chống tầu siêu thanh và từ nay ngoài cây 130mm hải quân Nga không biết lấy gì bắn Mỹ . Thương quá.
Raytheon Delivers 1000th Evolved SeaSparrow Missile

Raytheon delivered the 1000th Evolved SeaSparrow Missile to a multinational consortium during a ceremony at the Raytheon Missile Systems Weapon Integration Center - Camden.
Deployed by the U.S. Navy and nine international fleets, ESSM defends the battlespace by delivering ship self-defense firepower against high-G maneuvering anti-ship cruise missiles as well as surface and low-velocity air threats.
"ESSM''s increased speed coupled with its improved guidance system allows for engagements at extended ranges," said Capt. Mike Anderson, the U.S. Navy''s ESSM project manager.
"The hallmarks of the missile are its international design, combat system flexibility and performance edge."
As a tail-controlled missile, ESSM utilizes recent enhancements to its guidance system to take advantage of improved seeker sensitivity, increased propulsion and greater weapon accuracy.
Combined, these features result in ESSM arriving at the intercept point with more endgame speed and agility to counter the threat.
"Raytheon leads an international team of 18 world-class companies in developing and producing ESSM," said Ed Roesly, Raytheon''s ESSM program director.

Boeing Advanced Tactical Laser Defeats Ground Target In Flight Test

Boeing and the U.S. Air Force on Aug. 30 defeated a ground target from the air with the Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) aircraft, demonstrating ATL''s first air-to-ground, high-power laser engagement of a tactically representative target.
During the test, the C-130H aircraft took off from Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., and fired its high-power chemical laser through its beam control system while flying over White Sands Missile Range, N.M. The beam control system acquired the ground target - an unoccupied stationary vehicle - and guided the laser beam to the target, as directed by ATL''s battle management system. The laser beam''s energy defeated the vehicle.
"This milestone demonstrates that directed energy weapon systems will transform the battlespace and save lives by giving warfighters a speed-of-light, ultra-precision engagement capability that will dramatically reduce collateral damage," said Greg Hyslop, vice president and general manager of Boeing Missile Defense Systems.
"By demonstrating this capability, the ATL team has earned a distinguished place in the history of weapon system development."
