The head of Ukraine's helicopter engine manufacturer, Motor Sich, came to the Moscow Air Show with a stand, as well executives from Ukraine's other aerospace manufacturer, Antonov, according to the business daily Vedomosti.

Despite political tensions and a Ukrainian ban on most technological exports to Russia, Ukraine's aerospace industry still participated in the MAKS-2015 air show on an unofficial basis, business daily Vedomosti reported.

The head of engine manufacturer Motor Sich, Vyacheslav Boguslayev was present at the airshow, where the company's Russian branch was featured at a stand. Ukraine's other major aerospace manufacturer, Antonov, was not present at the air show, although its executives were seen attending, sources told the newspaper.

Russia's military expects to put over 250 planes and helicopters into service in 2015, despite limits on helicopter engine imports. According to commander of the Russian Air Force Viktor Bondarev, some of the shipments may even come ahead of schedule.

"We should receive over 250 planes and helicopters this year. And there are no doubts that we will receive this equipment from the industry," Bondarev told RIA Novosti.

A source in Russia's Rostec told Vedomosti that Russian Helicopters expects to sign another $100 million contract to buy Motor Sich helicopter engines in 2016, as the company's previous $1 billion three-year contract expires in 2015. The full-scale production of the TV3-117 engines necessary for Russian helicopters is expected to begin in 2017.

Two pilots in the Saudi-led coalition were killed when their Apache helicopter came down on the border with Yemen on Friday, the coalition said.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the coalition said it was investigating the cause of the crash, which took place in Saudi Arabia’s border province of Jizan.

Yemen’s Saba news agency, run by the Houthi movement, said Houthi forces had shot down a Saudi Apache helicopter in Jizan.

The coalition named the two pilots as Ali Bin Mohammed Al Qarni and Nasser bin Mohammed Al Harthy.

The new vessels would enable it to contest Iranian naval challenges in the Me***erranean, the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, and alter the balance of strength between the opposing sides.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have given presidents Abdel-Fatteh El-Sisi and Francois Hollande pledges to fund the transaction at $800 million per carrier.

Paris has refunded Moscow €900 million for two Mistral helicopter carriers put on hold by President Francois Holland as part of the sanctions against Russia, a source in the Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation told RIA Novosti.
Initially, Russia pre-paid France €800 million to manufacture the ships. The refund of an ad***ional €100 million was calculated by Russian officials as compensation for carrying out research and development to adapt the Kamov K-52 helicopter for the Navy’s needs, for personnel training to operate the Mistral vessels, and also for the construction of the landing pier for Mistral ships in Russia’s Pacific port of Vladivostok, the source said.

So far Moscow has not given France permission to sell the ships to a third party.

Singapore has already sent a delegation to France to examine whether the Mistral ships can be acquired for its armed forces, France’s Tribune newspaper reported, citing its own sources. Malaysia has also shown interest in the warships.
